River Ness Fishing Report

The River Ness has been very quiet over the past week, with just a handful of reported fish coming to club members.

Martin Nelson got on the score sheet on 22 August with a 5lb fish taken on the fly at around 4.30pm.

A few days later, on 27 August, Alistair Gill from Cascade, Colorado, USA landed a 4lb grilse from the Weir Pool, also on the fly.

On Friday, Alex Evans also managed to find a 6.5lb fish from the Braes, taking it on the fly using a size 14 Red Ally’s Shrimp.

Congratulations to Martin, Alistair and Alex on their catches during what has been a particularly quiet spell on the river.

Hopefully we will see a little more activity as we move into September.

Inverness Angling Club have generously supported Mhairi Fraser with her Great Wall of China fundraising for Highland Hospice. 💛🌻

As well as donating £500, the club presented Highland Hospice with vouchers for 2 fishing permits which will be up for bids in this years online Autumn Auction.

River Ness Fishing Report – More Success Through Mid-August

The River Ness has continued to produce fish through the middle of August, with several more salmon and grilse reported from MacIntyre, the Mill Stream and Little Isle.

On Thursday 13th August, Brian Nicholas caught a 6lb grilse from MacIntyre.

The following day, Friday 14th August, Donnie Urquhart was successful once again, landing a 7lb salmon from the right bank of the Mill Stream. The fish was taken on a Devon Minnow at approximately 3:30pm.

Saturday 15th August saw Brian Nicholas back among the fish, with another 6lb grilse from MacIntyre.

Brian’s good run continued on Tuesday 18th August when he landed a 5lb grilse from Little Isle.

Also on Tuesday, Willie Clark landed a cracking fresh 7lb salmon from Little Isle. The fish was covered in sea lice and was taken on the fly during the evening.

A very productive spell for Brian Nicholas in particular, with three fish reported over the space of just a few days. It is also encouraging to see fresh, sea-liced fish still entering the river as we move further into August.

Donny increases his season tally?

Donny Urquhart was back in action on Friday with a clean fish of 7lb on the minnow from the Mill Stream. This is Donnys 4th fish of the season so far. Well done.

No fish reported on Saturday, let's hope catches continue this week!

Brian gets his second of the season!

Brian Nicholas was in luck yesterday catching a sparking grilse and losing 2 others in the MacIntyre. Well done!

A big thank you to Lee Mackenzie, who has kindly made a cracking new sign for the Macintyre Hut.

It is great to see members continuing to give their time and effort to improve things around the river, and Lee’s new sign is another excellent addition to the beat.

These jobs often go on quietly behind the scenes, but they are very much appreciated and all help to keep the club and its facilities looking their best.

River Ness Fishing Report – More Fish on the Move
The catches have continued on the River Ness, with another productive few days between 8th and 12th August and fish coming from several parts of the club water.

Friday 8th August saw Thumper back among the fish once again, landing a nice wee grilse on the fly.

Tuesday 11th August proved particularly productive. Davie Dyce caught and released a 4lb grilse on the fly from the Mill Stream.

Donnie Urquhart then enjoyed an excellent afternoon at the Weir Pool, landing two salmon on a Devon minnow between approximately 1pm and 2pm. The first was estimated at 9–10lb and the second at 7–8lb, with both fish safely released.

Also on Tuesday, Ian Jennings, a very long-term associate member of the club from Wolverhampton, landed a fish on the spinner from below Charlie’s Seat.

Ian was successful again the following day, Wednesday 12th August, catching and releasing an 8lb salmon on the Mac Fly — a fine couple of days for one of the club’s longstanding associate members.

There was also a particularly memorable catch for Cole Campbell, son of Liam Campbell, who landed his first-ever grilse at the Weir Pool. The fish, taken on the worm, put up a good fight — a fantastic moment for Cole and certainly a very proud dad!

Another encouraging few days for the club, with fish being taken on the fly, spinner, minnow and worm across a good spread of pools. Congratulations to everyone, and a special well done to Cole on his first grilse.

Catches continue!

Wednesday produced 2 fish.

Junior members Cole Campbel got a grilse of 6lb on the worm from the Weir and Ian Jennings was back in action with an 8lb fish from the MacIntyre.

Well done.

Quiet Monday but Tuesday Produces fish!

With rising water on Monday conditions were difficult and no fish were reported.

Things picked up on Tuesday, with Davie Dyce getting a 5lb grilse from the Mill and lost another.
Donny Urquhart added to his tally with 2 fish spinning from the weir, 7lb and 9lb.

Not to be outdone, long term associate member Ian Jennings landed a grilse of 5lb spinning in the MacIntyre.

Hopefully with the water dropping we will see more on the score sheet by the end of the week.
