🐾 Novice Gundogs Pushing Their Skills This Week

We stretched the Novice Gundogs group a little further this week by taking them into some heavier cover and working on taking a clean line on a blind retrieve (that’s a dummy the dog hasn’t seen being placed).
I just missed getting a video of Claire and Bria (next week, promise!), but here are two brilliant examples from today. Willow holding her line beautifully through the cover. Gunner taking on the blind with confidence and commitment.

All the dogs showed great focus and drive. Exactly what we want to see as they learn to work at distance without relying on their eyes.

Cody is a strong and driven black Labrador. He joined Fun Gundogs with plenty of natural ability but very little direction. His enthusiasm was clear, but without structure he was pulling his owners around and struggling to stay connected.

Through consistent training over the last 5 weeks, clear communication, and giving him meaningful work, Cody is learning to channel his drive with purpose.

He now:
💡Maintains focus on lead
⬆️ Works retrieves with intent
📶 Stays engaged on walks
💪 Builds stronger connection with his owners

He’s a fantastic example of what happens when a dog’s natural instincts are guided, not suppressed.

Our FUN GUNDOGS group smashed it last night working on direction and memory retreives. It’s fantastic to see how much progress everyone is making.

Here we have Lois and her lovely black Lab, Josie, who nailed their simple marked retrieve when training this evening. These two originally joined us to work on recall and reactivity, and now they’ve found a brand new passion they can enjoy together.
