💙 National Fitness Day 2026 💪

Today is National Fitness Day 2026, a chance to celebrate the benefits of being active and the positive impact regular physical activity can have on your health and wellbeing.

✨ Why does being active matter?

✅ A Healthier Body – Helps maintain a healthy weight, strengthens muscles and bones, and can reduce the risk of long-term health conditions.

✅ A Sharper Mind – Physical activity can improve concentration, support memory, and help reduce stress.

✅ A Better Mood – Exercise releases feel-good endorphins, helping you feel happier and more positive.

✅ Better Sleep – Regular activity can help you fall asleep faster and enjoy more restful sleep.

✅ More Energy – Staying active can boost your energy levels and help you make the most of every day.

Remember, fitness isn't just about the gym. Whether you enjoy walking, swimming, group exercise classes, cycling, dancing, or playing sport, finding an activity you love is the key to staying active.

One in three adults have high blood pressure in the UK, but many don’t realise it because it doesn’t necessarily have any symptoms. The good news is there are lots of things you can do to lower it through changes to diet and lifestyle (or by medication if needed).

Our health and wellbeing team are out and about this week offering free blood pressure checks and healthy lifestyle advice as part of Autumn Health Watch.

Drop-in, no booking required.

All locations and times are on our dedicated webpage: https://livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk/live-life-well/supporting-change/health-watch/

Last month saw Cycle Aberdeenshire supporting the well established Ythan Cycling Club Youth Cycling races in Ellon but 2026 was a special event as the club also took on the mantle as hosts of the Scottish Youth Criterium Championships.

Since 2023, Cycle Aberdeenshire has secured funding to provide yellow winner’s jerseys for the respective age categories from U8 to U16 but with National Champion jerseys on offer for the older age categories, the coveted yellow ones which have in the past headed home to various parts of Scotland, were reserved for the younger radios.

Making her fourth appearance in a row was Cllr Anne Stirling, Aberdeenshire Council Co-Leader but for this day in her role as Chair of the Communities Committee, and she had the pleasure of awarding winners jerseys to all of the age groups, meaning that she was reacquainted with a number of riders from across the country who she has seen progressing through the age groups since 2023.

As always, the competition was fierce and friendly across all age groups and especially the older riders who were looking to secure a national champions jersey. Several local riders ensured places on the podiums and Aberdeenshire had two winners via Andrew Moran (Ythan CC) in the Boys U8 race and Zara Main (Deeside Thistle Cycling Club), who has had an amazing season including a race win in Belgium in the summer, taking the national U16 Girls title.

Our short film provides a flavour of the day and congratulations once again to Ythan Cycling Club on another well organised event that attracted riders from across Scotland. Thanks must also go to the Aberdeenshire Charities Trust (ACT2) Fund for supporting the provision of the Cycle Aberdeenshire yellow jerseys, which outwith the home winner saw those now famous jerseys heading to Dumfries and Stirling.

🚲Stella's Voice and Karen Adam MSP Launch ‘Bikes for Christmas’ for a Third Year

🎁Hundreds of children in the North East are set to receive upcycled bikes in time for Christmas, following this year’s launch of the Bikes for Christmas campaign.

🙌🏻Now in it’s third year, the project led by Karen Adam MSP and Stella’s Voice, supported by Nestrans and funded by Transport Scotland, will benefit children from nursery level to primary 3 across Aberdeenshire and Moray.

🗣Karen Adam MSP and Mark Morgan of Stella’s Voice began the scheme to tackle child poverty by removing some of the financial barriers faced by families, and ensure inclusion and independence for every child receiving a bike.
