Trimley Red Devils Reserves 2–0 Ipswich Exiles

A frustrating afternoon for the Exiles as we fell to a 2–0 defeat against a lively, well-structured and committed Trimley Red Devils side.

After a promising pre-season, the Exiles turned up with only half the heart and passion we had shown in our preparation games. From the first whistle, we were second best to everything — losing individual battles, lacking intensity and struggling to find the energy and togetherness that had been so evident throughout pre-season.

Trimley were everything we weren’t on the day: tenacious, organised, energetic and fully committed. They showed that while ability is important, it takes far more than ability alone to win football matches.

The opening goal came from a sloppy defensive error at a set piece, giving Trimley the advantage. Despite attempts to respond, the Exiles couldn’t find the quality or urgency required to get back into the game.

The second came in spectacular fashion, with the evergreen Ash Veitch producing a wonder goal to put the hosts firmly in control and ultimately seal a 2–0 victory.

A disappointing result, but one that offers plenty of lessons. The standards shown throughout pre-season have to become the standard on matchday — with the heart, passion, commitment and togetherness needed to compete for 90 minutes.

A former Henley Athletic and Whitton midfielder, Keiton is a signing that Lasty and Damo have been chasing all summer, and we are delighted to finally get the deal over the line.

A tenacious and energetic midfielder, Keiton will bring plenty of heart, drive and energy to the middle of the park. We are looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the Exiles this season. 💪
