2 Weeks to go until the SOGB Summer Games

Today marks 14 days till Orwell Panthers athletes will represent Suffolk in the Special Olympics National Summer Games. Our athletes will be in Birmingham on the very same track, in the very same stadium as those who are competing in the European Champs this week.

So lets follow the lead of Amy Hunt and Romell Glave and go get Golds.

Training tonight will also involve the partial eclipse whilst we train, which will be an event to remember. No looking directly at the sun, no matter how tempting.

We will hopefully set up a facility to watch the eclipse without damaging our eye sight.

3 Weeks to go till the SOGB National Summer Games in Birmingham

Athletes are training hard with just 21 days to go till the big event. Good session last night for all. Getting ready for heats, semi-finals and finals over 3 days of competition.

The effort, grit and determination shown, to make those extra centimetres, finding that split second extra.

Keep going, keep pushing and the pay off will soon follow on the big day.

One month to go to the SOGB National Summer Games in Birmingham 26th to 30th August 2026.

The first summer games since 2017 is nearly upon and we have 4 training sessions left to get those last minute fine details and work load in before the big competition.

Competing against athletes from all over the country in the biggest games for nearly 10 years. For those who are able there is also the chance to compete in Chile in 2027 for the SO Olympic games.

Wednesday 26th August

Advance notice that there will be no training on this date due to the number of athletes and coaches who will be at the National Summer Games in Birmingham.

With this being in the school summer holidays as well there will not be enough coaches to run the session.

Training Wednesday 15th July

Please note that training this Wednesday will be from 6-7.30 due to the England game that evening kicking off at 8pm

This will give those able to train time to get back home and cheer on the 3 Lions.

At the end of yesterdays training the athletes helped raise some money, £50 towards the SOGB summer games in August by "Soaking the Coach"

£1 for 3 very wet sponges to throw at the lead coach Ian. Some athletes even paid for more than 3 goes.

Thankfully (for Ian) it was a warm evening and needless to say Ian got very wet. With a few athletes even managing to get a sponge right on Ian's face.

I think that might have been pay back for all those hard sessions he makes them do.
