Seniors Summer League & Seniors Trophy (Formally the TOFFS trophy)

After two blank weeks the weather relented and 15 Seniors turned out for the double header of the Seniors Trophy and Summer League Points .

The benign conditions were not reflected in the scores as only our winner LEE BOARDMAN managed to achieve Par with 36 Points to take the title .

In second place was Bill Dakin on 32 who edged out Andy Bennett on a count back .

There were no twos recorded !

The League table is still dominated by the three people who have the maximum 6 scores recorded to date (Dave Raby , Bill Dakin & Clive Boston) the next couple of weeks will see the table take shape as we get to 8 appearances

Branshaw Seniors Week 5

Week 5 saw 11 brave souls get to the course with Thunder. Lightning and heavy rain all around them

However, patience led to a slightly delayed start with sunny conditions but a very tricky swirling wind.

There were two 2’s recorded this week: Bill Dakin on the 18th and Dave Raby with a remarkable EAGLE on the 7th.

Dave had posted two Birdies before this, and it enabled him to secure his second win of the season with 38 points. Paul Gilroy had sat patiently in the clubhouse with 37 points, only to be denied by the last four-ball in.

The table is not yet clear as there are only 3 people with 5 scores in, but Dave has got his nose well in front at this stage.

15 players went out today, and some pretty poor scores were returned.

We can only assume that the overnight heavy rain affected the playing conditions and, with the greenkeepers unable to cut the wet greens, putting proved a challenge.

There were no 2's.

The only score under par was Graham Clarke (our resident winner) with 37 points, which was 6 points ahead of the next nearest and was calculated to be at least 5 points below his handicap.

There was some confusion about second place: Bill Dakin's card suggested he had 32 points, but his scorer was adamant he only had 31. So, with four players on 31, it was left to Roger to consult the computer to resolve the deadlock.

Not surprisingly, he came back to say he was in second place and claimed the Fiver.

Please sign up for the friendly at Bracken Ghyll on Weds 3rd June - sheet in locker room and 3 more required to complete the team.

Jerry will be collecting payments towards the end-of-season trip to Hawksworth from next week.

Please note that the results table will be updated when Keith returns.

Seniors Week 3

A combination of holidays, other competitions, and injuries resulted in just 12 Seniors participating in what turned out to be the Dave Raby Show

Winning the overall competition with 37 points, Dave also carded the only two of the day & was a member of the Lowest Gross team competition along with Clive Boston & Nick Hopkinson. Roger Smales was second on 34 points, beating Eric Younger on a last 6 count back.

It's early days on the leaderboard with 7 players completing all 3 rounds heading the table.

The benign weather conditions afforded a good scoring opportunity to the 19 Seniors taking part today, but none managed to break Par

Three players tied with 35 points: Ted Godfrey, Mark Isherwood & Bob Wellwood, and it was Ted who came out top on the countback with Mark taking second place.

There was just one TWO recorded by Roger Smales on the 18th

Dear members
It is with regret that we inform you of the passing of Peter Dyson, aged 83 years
Peter joined Branshaw Golf Club in 1988 and was still a two-day member until May last year,
Peter passed away yesterday, and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
No details yet regarding his funeral. Once known, we will pass them on
Steven Smith

Peter was a long-standing member of the seniors' section. I played many rounds with Peter and will always remember his strange swing, not long, but mostly landing on the fairway. On behalf of the seniors section, condolences to his family. R.I.P. Peter
