A historic evening for the club as we fielded our first girls team. A 6-a-side game against Bradford League opposition. Our generous hosts, Bankfoot CC, looked after us both on and off the field. Thanks to them and to Webbo for organising a great game.

Anyone else's power off in Long Lee?

A massive thank you to everyone who attended our family fun day. Thanks to all our volunteers who gave their free time to help out. Thanks to the stall holders for coming along. Thanks to Keighley Town Council for promoting the event as part of their Festival of Sports. Thanks to Oxenhope Cricket Club for bringing their junior team. Thanks to our sponsors Barnes of Keighley for supplying food for the BBQ. Most of all, thanks to all the kids who came along and tried out some cricket, archery, golf, axe throwing and tennis.

We also managed to raise some much needed funds for our expanding junior section. The future looks bright!

RESULTS WEEK 16 ☀️

The weather changed up this weekend, with the sunshine making a welcome return, but there was no change to the results. It’s 2 from 2 yet again for Long Lee!

The 1XI travelled to the beautiful to face off against their 2XI. Solid performances from the top order saw off the openers yet again, with the top four facing over 200 balls. 49 from Tom Butterfield and a phenomenal display from Danny Kernan, who finished with 43, including an audacious six to end the innings, saw the firsts bat out their 45 overs for 157.

As we took to the field to bowl, spirits were high. .chatta1 removed both openers in quick succession before Lofty picked up where he left off, taking four wickets in his second spell. Haseeb steamed in at the other end and claimed a quick-fire four wickets of his own, including the final two in two balls. Gargrave finished on 139 all out, sealing an 18-run victory for LLCC.

Batting first and at 53/4, the 2s looked to have an uphill battle on their hands, but a ship-steadying middle order of Paul Wilkinson (58*), Junid (73), and Zakki (38) took the game away from Haworth, leaving Long Lee on a mighty 278/7 after 40 overs.

The bowlers entered the field eyeing up a colossal victory, and my word, did they deliver. Five wickets for opener Zakki and three for at the other end dismantled our opponents’ batting line-up, reducing them to just 55 all out from 19 overs, taking a wicket every 11 balls on average. The margin of victory was 223 runs in the end.

Next week, the firsts welcome Ingrow CC to Golden View, while the second team travel to Crossflatts to face their 3XI. Both games start at 13:30 on Saturday 8th August. See you all there!
