A curious case on the Leven.

16th September 2026 Level - a smidgin above 1.0 Paddlers - Nick Burley, Jag Amin, John Hooson It was the usual scenario, no rivers running anywhere locally apart from the Leven. But the Leven was at a nice level and three folk turned out for a playful, three hour descent - a good workout for under-used upper body muscles. The water was warm and all the rapids ran well with no unintended rolls, even the Backbarrow Bridge drop....

Lower Duddon

17th September 2026 With dropping water levels and only a forecast of showers the best option for the day looked like the Lower Duddon. It’s a long time since I had been on this so was pleased that both Nick B and John H had some recent knowledge of it. We met at the Duddon Bridge take out car park which was full with other group(s) from Lancashire clubs, however, once we had changed and got to the put in there was not another paddler to be seen, and stayed like that for the rest of the trip....

I always enjoy learning new skills – even if they leave you a bit battered at the end of the day! I’ve enjoyed the delights of various water borne vessels for many years, but I’ve never sampled the bore jaunt. Not sure why? St Bees to Whitehaven.

Tuesday 25th August 2026 “It was definitely one of those borderline “do I or don’t I wear a drysuit?” kind of days…….sunny but not reliably warm. With a gentle easterly blowing, we launched close to high tide from the RNLI slipway and enjoyed a lovely calm trip around the headland, the sea green and clear. The cliffs were fairly devoid of birds, it being late August, but we made a brief stop at Fleswick Bay to admire the sandstone formations....

Friday 14th August 2026 Roa Island to Jubilee Bridge and the Ferry Pitchings and back. HW Barrow was 9.3m at 1328 An early arrival by everybody at Roa Island allowed us to be on the water a little before our original midday launch target time. The rapidly rising Spring tide made for an easy launch off the little slipway at the end of Foulney Street....

Killington Lake – Tuesday Evening Paddle

Six paddlers met at Killington Lake for another of our fortnightly Tuesday evening sessions, making the most of a pleasant summer evening on the water. With a light breeze, slightly moody skies and plenty of daylight ahead, we launched at 6pm for a relaxed paddle around the lake before settling into the evening’s skills session. 20th to 22nd July 2026 The Clyde once again provided three days of excellent paddling, due to the combination of scenery, wildlife and maritime history. Kelburn Castle campsite, our home for two nights, was convenient and good value at £10 pppn.
