The obedient plant or Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’ is a an electric violet purple with very striking spikes of flowers that get to approximately 60-100cm tall. Very much a late summer planting option for a sunny spot (it will grow in light shade but does best in sun)
The obedient part is in relation to its individual flower heads that have a kind of hinged joint so that the flower having moved it will stay in position which is less than convincing. Needless to say that’s the last reason for choosing it so just focus on the aesthetics! I should have also said it’s a great flower for pollinators 🐝

Stunning autumn colour of Parotta persica ‘Persian Spire’ that has been planted in a large pot for years and it’s been thriving even with some healthy competition for space. Impressively drought tolerant planting option for beds and borders as well as pots

A couple of shots taken last week of our newly planted borders. I ventured skyward on my Niwaki tripod steps to get some height which makes such a difference when trying to get more of an overall shot. Love how you get a sense of the more established trees and shrubs further down the site that have been quietly making the presence known over the last decade or so….

Not for the faint hearted but one that deserves a note of appreciation whether you love them or not. Coleus ‘Redhead’ is practically glowing with intensity at this stage in the season and one I couldn’t be without.

The Sanguisorba are one of the many late summer highlights for me in the garden and amongst this broad ranging genus is one I use every year in the planted containers, a gorgeous variety called ‘Little Tanna’ it’s gentle, airy quality pairs with so many different plants and it is also excellent in the border where good light and drainage are on hand 🌱

Dahlia ‘Autumn Orange’ has taken on a delightful untidiness to herald in the late Summer early Autumn vibes and I do like it against the red of our tin shed. Although as I’ve concluded on several occasions Red seems to make almost anything look rather fine….
