🥋 A HUGE DAY FOR DNA JUDO 🥋

A fantastic day for the DNA Judo family at today’s North West Area Dan Grading at Leigh Judo Club, with success on the mat and another exciting step forward for the club.

⚫️ SIÂN PEAK – 1ST DAN ⚫️

Craven Judo Academy fighter Siân Peak was outstanding. Siân won her first two contests to qualify for a line-up before dispatching each fighter one by one with full-point Ippon victories to earn her 1st Dan black belt on the day! 🥋🔥

A fantastic achievement and a massive congratulations to Siân!

⚫️ EVIE VOSE – 20 POINTS TOWARDS 2ND DAN ⚫️

North Lancs Judo Academy Head Coach Evie Vose went into today looking to add points towards her 2nd Dan.

Evie fought three contests, earning 10 points against another 1st Dan before adding a further five points apiece against two 1st Kyu fighters. That gives Evie 20 points from today and leaves her just 40 points away from her 2nd Dan! 👏

⚫️ GARY BENTLEY – 2ND DAN ⚫️

After spending the last 12 months on a mission to complete his 2nd Dan, Furness Judo Academy Head Coach Gary Bentley finally got the job done today!

Gary secured the final 10 points he needed to achieve his 2nd Dan, adding another fantastic milestone to his own judo journey and another 2nd Dan to the DNA Judo family. 🥋

And finally, DNA Judo Head Coach Danny Harper officially began his training to become a Senior Examiner.

A huge thank you to the North West Area for inviting Danny onto the programme. As a club, we recognise and appreciate the hard work the Area puts into developing clubs, coaches and examiners across our region.

We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Mickie for offering mat-side support to the team. Your help and encouragement were greatly appreciated throughout the day.

A brilliant day of progress, achievement and development across the DNA Judo family. Congratulations to Siân, Evie and Gary! 🥋🔥

🥋 BJA MEMBERSHIP REMINDER 🥋

A quick reminder to all DNA Judo members & parents to please check that your British Judo membership is active and up to date for the new judo season.

All DNA Judo members are required to hold a valid British Judo membership after completing their first 5 sessions.

⭐ DNA Judo is a British Judo Elite Provider, which means our members can benefit from a discounted membership rate.

When joining or renewing, please make sure you select the “Elite Full” membership option to access the discounted rate available to DNA Judo members.

British Judo membership provides your insurance cover and allows you to grade, compete and have your progression officially recognised.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents; if you have more than one child training with us, please remember to check each child’s membership individually.

If your membership has expired, please renew it as soon as possible.

If you’re new to DNA Judo and still within your first 5 sessions, don’t worry; we’ll provide you with everything you need to get registered.

🥋 CARNFORTH JUDO – RETURN UPDATE

Unfortunately, we need to delay the return of our Carnforth sessions by one week due to the availability of our coaching staff.

We’re genuinely sorry to let you down, particularly as we know many of our families will have been looking forward to getting back on the mat this week.

Our full North Lancs Judo timetable will be back up and running from Monday 7th September. ❤️🖤

Tomorrow we welcome clubs from across the country to the DNA Judo Great North Open 2026, and we can’t wait to see everyone on the tatami.

A few reminders before you travel:

🎟️ Spectators: £3 per adult.
🥋 Competitors & Coaches: FREE admission.

☕ Café Available
Our café outside the sports hall will be serving:
🥓 Bacon & sausage butties
🌭 Hot dogs
🥤 Hot & cold drinks
🍫 Snacks

🚫 Please note: No food is to be consumed inside the sports hall.

The Great North Open is a grassroots event, and for many competitors this will be their very first experience of stepping onto a competition mat.

Please show respect to our athletes, coaches, referees, table officials and volunteers throughout the day. Every official is giving their time to help create a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

If you have any questions or concerns during the event, please come and speak to Danny at Control. We’ll always do our best to find a fair and positive solution while keeping the focus where it belongs; on creating an enjoyable experience for every competitor.

All entrant anomalies have now been contacted to discuss their available options, and we can now confirm our official weigh-in times for this Sunday’s DNA Judo Great North Open Championships.

• 9:00am; U12s
• 9:45am; U16s
• 10:15am; Seniors & Veterans

Please arrive promptly for your allocated weigh-in. Keeping to these times is imperative in helping our event run smoothly and ensuring everyone gets on the mat as quickly as possible.

⚖️ Public Weigh-In
All competitors should weigh in wearing judo trousers and a T-shirt.
