🏀 COUGARS 92–82 CARDIFF CITY 🏀

Cougars came through a hard-fought Division 1 contest featuring nine lead changes and seven tied scores. With the game level at half-time, a strong third quarter and a decisive 10–0 run gave Cougars the separation needed to close out the win.

🏀 GAME DAY 😤
Cougars D1 look to kick off their SWBA league campaign against National League Cardiff City. Last year City took the game by a point in an exciting battle and this opener I’m sure won’t disappoint either.

A really positive first for our U12s in the SWBA Central Venue League 🏀

For several of this group, this is the next step after playing U11 basketball last season, and there were some really promising signs.

The defensive habits we’ve been working on were evident throughout the day, but at this age the bigger picture matters far more than results.

We want these players getting games, making decisions, learning from mistakes, growing in confidence and, above all, enjoying playing basketball.

That’s how we keep young players in the game and help them develop.

A big thank you to Basketball Wales and the South Wales Basketball Association for providing these opportunities.

🌐 We’ve also launched our new Cougars website. Take a look at COUGARSbasketball.com to find out more about the club, our teams and how to get involved.

We’re looking for businesses interested in supporting our growing junior programme.

🏀COUGARS 100–79 CAERPHILLY COBRAS

Cougars opened the season with a strong victory over Caerphilly in the latest fast and physical contest between the two sides.

Both teams started well, with Cougars edging a competitive opening quarter 16–13. Our full-court pressure forced turnovers and early timeouts before we began to take control during the second quarter.

The lead grew beyond 15 points, but credit to Caerphilly for responding from the free-throw line and reducing the gap to 46–38 at half-time.

Cougars pulled clear after the break, winning the third quarter 38–19. Big three-pointers from Ross Davis and Dan Tully helped build a commanding advantage, while Ben Evans controlled the game with 15 assists.

There were also excellent first appearances from Anderson Hare and Jacob Smith. Both brought energy, competed well and looked completely at home in a Cougars jersey.

A big shout-out to Dan Tully, who finished with 28 points and was selected as MVP by the referees.

Cougars now face Caerphilly again on Wednesday in the SWBA Division One Cup. They’ll be looking for revenge while Cougars aim to keep momentum to the opening week of the season.
