Leeds Raptors Ice Hockey Club

Team Captain Spotlight - Graham

I've been playing for around five years. After watching the Leeds Knights and deciding hockey looked too much fun to ignore, I signed up for Sunday morning Hockey Excellence sessions and never looked back.

I went on to play three seasons with the Leeds Lightning before taking a step back and considering hanging up the skates.

Thankfully, a crazy conversation about a new hockey team changed everything, and the Raptors were born.

Since then, I've enjoyed being part of the journey, bringing game experience to the team and helping out wherever I can.

Random fact: Coffee isn't a preference, it's a requirement.

Meet Mikey, Barry’s Bonce of the Week.

Mikey arrived at the Raptors as a defenceman, but this week answered the call, donned the goalie kit, and made some fantastic saves.

A brave performance and a well-earned Bonce of the Week award.

Welcome to life as a goalie, Mikey. Everyone's aiming for you now.

Team Captain Spotlight - Danny

I've only been playing ice hockey for around 18 months, but I've been skating on and off since I was 13.

After watching an ice hockey match, I was hooked instantly and thought, "I need to give that a go."

I started with Sunday morning sessions, then moved into coaching the kids on weekends. That eventually grew into coaching both juniors and adults, which has been a brilliant part of my hockey journey.

Random fact: I'm a 2nd Degree Black Belt, so falling over on the ice wasn't my first experience of getting knocked around!

A huge shoutout to Leo, who earned the privilege of being Barry’s bonce of the week at Monday nights training session!

From the first drill to the final whistle, Leo brought the energy, effort and determination that coaches love to see.

Well done Leo

Over the next few weeks, we'll be getting to know Alex, Danny and Graham a little better, so keep an eye out for our captain spotlight posts.

One more thing... how good does the new kit look?

Barry is back and The Raptors begin our new module on ‘Positioning’

Jay took to it like a duck to water and smashed training making him Barry’s choice.

Well done Jay

That feeling when you take Player of the Match at a Raptors scrim.

Huge shoutout to Giulia, who dominated for the green team and Jay, who put in a standout shift for the black team.

Two brilliant performances, two well‑earned awards, and exactly the kind of graft that lifts the whole squad.

Next week, Barry’s back!

Barry’s bonce this week goes to Chris, wrapping up our body contact module by treating the drills like a personal vendetta and the boards like they’d insulted his family.

He smashed every rep and the boards are still vibrating. Well done Chris

Next week: full scrim - brace yourselves!
