Amazing news!
Over the last few months many Pilates teachers and education companies have been concerned that is has been possible for someone with no Pilates mat work pre-requisite to train as a Reformer "Group" teacher.

I am delighted to say that YMCA AWARDS have listened to us and this has now been withdrawn. (From October.)
It is now a pre-requisite that to enrol on a YMCA AWARDS level 3 reformer course you must hold a Level 3 mat qualifcation.

Pilates is a profession and we all care deeply about the safety of our clients and our industry.

I was scrolling through my instagram feed and showed Max the video showing :
“The deep, fine muscles of the neck all held in place by the nuchal ligament”
(To see the original post/video see )
Max’s (8y) response was: ughhh… this is the back of a human neck? Fresh? I thought muscles are more separate?
It is a funny conversation to have while drinking your morning coffee, but he made an excellent comment.
I used to imagine the whole body musculature as it is presented to us in an anatomy book. All beautifully separate and easily recognisable.
Which is not the case (well, it is to a well trained eye of anatomist, surgeons…).
Can you see how everything is connected - muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments? And as such, I think it’s easier to understand how, for example, one’s calf muscle lack of elasticity can create discomfort higher up the chain?

Yesterday I had a day of freshening up and cleaning the studio in preparation for the new term. Running a small business means you have to wear lots of hats.
I will be replying to all new and returning clients this week.

While on holidays.
Watching us all run. barefoot (excuse the mud) I took the opportunity to photograph my family’s feet. What I was most interested in is seeing the Achilles tendon inserting into the calcaneus to see the STJ position.
Then I ask for a heel lift - which ‘set’ comes into inverted position and would offer adequate strength to become rigid lever for stable push off?
