10th June 2024 and almost a three week gap between sessions with the energetic duo that is Isaac & Harrison. 😀
Unfortunately Harrison accidently kicked a door 🤦‍♂️ whilst zooming around at home resulting in, Door 1 - 0 Harrison and a badly bruised foot. 🦶
This session at Neilston was a chilled session. The boys helped with the rigging and played some climbing games. No hands on the slab, one handed above the slab and even no hands all the way to the top. ✅️🧗‍♀️😀

12th June 2024 and great to meet up with Ruth a competent indoor boulderer that wanted to experience climbing outside. 😀
Ruth's main concern other than being very nervous, was belaying for someone that is heavier than herself, this is very common and can easily be resolved. ✅️
We started the session playing some fun belaying games, to help settle the nerves. ✅️ Then straight into climbing with myself belaying for Ruth and vice-versa. We looked at a couple of options to help Ruth gain confidence in her belaying. One, is to lower slowly maintaining the same descent rate throughout. This prevents the belayer being pulled forward, ✅️ which you will experience if you lower someone quickly and then try to slow their descent rate. Option two, is to put some twists in the rope to generate extra friction when lowering, this is very simple, effective and perhaps the best way to resolve the issue. ✅️
A huge well done to Ruth for overcoming her fears of belaying for someone heavier than herself. 💪😀

During my previous session with Isaac & Harrison, I introduced the boys to climbing in parallel and we covered all the skills required to second on trad for a lead climber. ✅️
This session took place on the 20th May 2024, and the focus was all about reinforcing those skills and testing what the boys had remembered. ✅️ Both boys smashed it. 👊🧗‍♀️😀

2nd June 2024 and a brilliant afternoon spent at Neilston Quarry rock climbing 🧗‍♀️ with this group of young people from Monday Night Riders. ✅️ A charity local to Stewarton that engages with young people through horse riding. 🐎😀

The focus of this session was to hone Iain's skills as a second on trad. ✅️ We warmed up on Mister You Can Walk up Roon the Back, moved over to Scream and then onto Slinky Lizard. We just topped out Slinky Lizard ✅️ and managed to beat a hasty retreat to the cars before the heavy rain started! ✅️👍🧗‍♀️😀

My last session with this energetic duo was on the 13th May 2024 at Neilston Quarry and we covered all the skills required to abseil safely, both Harrison & Isaac smashed it. 👊
Moving forward to the 17th May 2024, the focus of this session was to introduce the boys to seconding on trad. 🧗‍♀️ First up, was giving clear instructions to both boys. ✅️ Belaying for a lead climber and checking they can hold a lead fall. ✅️ How to use a nut key to remove passive protection. ✅️ How to rack the "gear" on their harnesses. ✅️ And lots of climbing, including an abseil descent from all routes sent! 🧗‍♀️✅️

13th May 2024, great to catch up with Isaac & Harrison a super energetic duo after their holidays... 😀
The focus of the session was to introduce the boys to abseiling. During this session the boys practiced using a steep grassy embankment, a "safe environment" to hone their abseiling skills and to practice "stacked" abseiling. Once the boys had it sorted we moved onto doing it for real. ✅️
Both boys helped to rig the abseil rope, both boys attached themselves to the abseil rope, both boys did there own safety checks before abseiling and then totally smashed it! 👊 Two awesome abseilers! 🧗‍♀️
