Mid Norfolk Youth League
Touchline Behaviour – Official League Statement
for the 2026/27 Season
As we prepare for the start of the 2026/27 season, the Mid Norfolk Youth League wishes to address an
issue that continues to affect grassroots football across the country: touchline behaviour. Last season, the league experienced several incidents involving unacceptable conduct from coaches,
spectators, and players. This reflects a wider national concern, and it is essential that we work together to
ensure a safer and more respectful environment for all participants.
For the 2026/27 season, the league is committed to achieving a significant reduction in abusive and
unsporting behaviour. To support this aim, the league will be taking a firm and uncompromising
stance. Any club, team, or individual found to have engaged in abusive behaviour towards referees,
coaches, players, or spectators will face appropriate action (including individuals, teams, or clubs being
suspended or banned from the league). Where evidence confirms that abuse or misconduct has
occurred, the league will intervene decisively. It is important to remember that many of the referees officiating within our league are still children. Some of the behaviour directed at young officials last season was wholly unacceptable. The league will
not tolerate such conduct this season or in any future season.
We also recognise that the majority of clubs and teams work proactively to address behavioural issues and
uphold safeguarding standards. We are encouraged by the number of incidents that were reported and
dealt with appropriately, and we remain optimistic that—with continued cooperation—we can achieve an
incidentfree 2026/27 season.
Safeguarding children is everyone’s responsibility. Creating a safe, respectful, and positive environment
for young players is fundamental to the values of youth football.
The Mid Norfolk Youth League wishes all clubs and teams a successful, enjoyable, and wellspirited
2026/27 season.
