🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Full Time in Braga – A Tournament of Growth, Pride and Experience

The Under 17 European Championships have come to a close, bringing to an end a week of incredible learning opportunities for our young England teams.

Competing against the very best players in their age groups in European roller hockey is never easy, but every player pulled on the England shirt with pride, commitment and determination. While the results didn't fall in our favour, the experience gained throughout the week will be invaluable as these players continue their development.

The U17 Male team concluded their campaign with a 7–2 defeat to Germany before producing one of their strongest performances of the tournament against Andorra. After a thrilling 2–2 draw, the game was decided by direct hits, where Andorra edged the contest 4–3.

The U17 Female team finished the competition against two more of Europe's strongest sides, battling hard against Spain before closing their tournament against Germany.

Results are only one measure of a tournament. Representing your country on the international stage demands courage, resilience and commitment, and every player demonstrated those qualities throughout the week. Every game, every challenge and every difficult moment becomes part of the journey of becoming a better player and teammate.

Perhaps the most exciting part is that many of these players remain eligible for next year's Under 17 European Championships. The foundations have been laid, lessons have been learned, and the experiences gained in Braga will help shape the future of England Roller Hockey.

A huge thank you goes to our players, coaches, support staff, officials, families and everyone who has followed and supported the teams throughout the tournament.

🏆Catching up with England at the U17 European Championships🏆

It has been a busy few days in Braga, with both England teams continuing their campaigns at the Under 17 European Championships.

For the U17 Male team, Game 2 against Andorra was a particularly tough one to take. England put in a strong performance and looked set to take a valuable point, only to concede with just 25 seconds remaining. A narrow 3–2 defeat, but a performance that showed what this team is capable of.

The team then faced Germany and Portugal in their next two games, with Germany taking a 5–1 victory before hosts Portugal secured an emphatic 16–0 win. Though the goals kept coming, the team kept pushing forwards in search of a goal that never quite came.

Now, England have the opportunity to face Germany once again tomorrow morning. A strong German team stands in their way, but so does another chance to put everything into one more game and chase that first win of the tournament. It's a tough night to get through and play in the first game tomorrow morning but our boys will be up for the challenge!

For the U17 Female team, the tournament has also brought a series of tough challenges against some of Europe's leading teams. They have battled well and only brief lapses in defence have really cost them. They have given a strong performance in each game, which for this young team is valuable experience.

Following their opening game against Portugal, England faced France, Italy and Germany. The results were:

The results haven't always gone England's way, but these teams continue to represent their country, compete at the highest level and gain valuable experience on the European stage.

WSE 2026 Under 17 European Championships

A tough start. But this tournament is only just beginning.

The U17 Male team battled hard against Switzerland in a tight, competitive game, eventually falling to a 2–0 defeat. The U17 Female team faced a strong Portugal side in their opening match.

The results may not have gone the way either team wanted, but tournament hockey moves quickly. There is no time to dwell. No time to look back.
The next challenge is already here.

Later today, the U17 Male team face Andorra, while the U17 Female team take on France.

Two teams. Two new opportunities. One more chance to step onto the rink, fight for every ball, support each other and show exactly what England is capable of.

WSE 2026 European Championships

The wait is over, and all the preparations completed! Today, both of our Under 17 teams take to the rink for the first day's action at the European Championships in Braga, Portugal.

They play every day until the final games at the weekend. Check in with the events page on our new website to see all the fixtures and information on each team.

🏆 SOHAM RHC CROWNED UNDER 13 NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 🏆

Soham RHC were crowned 2026 Under 13 National League Champions after an outstanding unbeaten performance at the National League Finals held at Bushfield Leisure Centre, Peterborough.

The final national competition of the domestic season brought together five of the country's top Under 13 sides, with every team battling across two days for the opportunity to finish the season as National Champions.

Soham made a strong start to the weekend with an impressive 8-4 victory over Ely & Chesterton United before producing an emphatic 15-1 win against Maidstone RHC to end Saturday at the top of the standings.

They returned on Sunday knowing two more positive performances would secure the title, and delivered in style. A commanding 9-1 victory over Manchester RHC was followed by a hard-fought 4-1 win against Farnham RHC, completing a perfect weekend of four wins from four matches.

Farnham RHC enjoyed an excellent tournament of their own, opening with an 11-0 victory over Maidstone before overcoming Manchester RHC 7-4 on Saturday. They continued their impressive form on Sunday with an 11-2 win over Ely & Chesterton United, finishing runners-up after their only defeat came against the eventual champions.

Manchester RHC secured third place after convincing victories over Ely & Chesterton United and Maidstone RHC, while Ely & Chesterton United finished fourth following their victory over Maidstone in the final round of fixtures.

As the final national event of the season, the Under 13 Finals provided a fitting conclusion to another memorable year of domestic roller hockey, highlighting the next generation of talent coming through the sport.

🏆 The Neville Black ERH Young Referee of the Year Award 🏆

2026 Young Referee of the Year – Ruby Fraser

Ruby Fraser has enjoyed an exceptional season and is a thoroughly deserving recipient of the Neville Black Young Referee of the Year award. Her dedication to the sport has been evident throughout the year, not only through her performances as a player but also through her growing contribution to the refereeing programme.

Balancing a demanding playing schedule across three clubs and multiple age groups is a significant commitment in itself. Yet alongside her playing responsibilities, Ruby has also found the time and determination to establish herself as one of the most promising young officials in the game. Across the season, she has officiated an impressive 45 matches, demonstrating a level of commitment and professionalism well beyond her years.

Refereeing requires confidence, resilience, and a willingness to continually learn and develop. Ruby has embraced those challenges throughout the season, approaching every game with maturity, composure, and a positive attitude. Her willingness to step forward whenever needed has made her a valued member of the officiating team and an excellent example to other young players considering the referee pathway.

Perhaps most exciting is the potential that still lies ahead. Ruby has shown all the qualities needed to progress through the refereeing ranks, and her development this season suggests a bright future both on and off the rink. With continued dedication and experience, it would be no surprise to see her taking charge of Premier League fixtures in the near future.

The future of officiating relies on young people willing to invest their time and energy into the game, and Ruby represents exactly that spirit.

Congratulations, Ruby, on a fantastic season and a very well-deserved award from everyone at ERH 👏🏆

🏆 ERH Senior Referee of the Year Award 🏆

2026 Senior Referee of the Year – Antonio Valente

Antonio Valente has been outstanding throughout the season and is a thoroughly deserving recipient of the ERH Senior Referee of the Year award. His commitment to the sport, professionalism, and willingness to support the game wherever required have made him an invaluable member of the refereeing community.

Across the season, Antonio has consistently given his time to ensure fixtures could take place, travelling the length and breadth of the country and always stepping forward when support was needed. Refereeing is often one of the most challenging and underappreciated roles within any sport, requiring resilience, composure, and a deep understanding of the game. Antonio has demonstrated all of those qualities in abundance.

His contribution this year is reflected in the remarkable total of 52 matches officiated, an achievement that highlights not only his dedication but also the trust placed in him to oversee games at all levels of competition. Whether managing high-pressure encounters or supporting the wider development of officiating within the sport, Antonio has approached every challenge with consistency and professionalism.

The game relies on passionate individuals who are willing to give their time and expertise for the benefit of others, and Antonio exemplifies exactly that spirit. His efforts throughout the season have made a significant impact on roller hockey across the country, and this award is fitting recognition of everything he has contributed.

Congratulations to Antonio on a fantastic season, and we look forward to seeing him back on the rink next year, continuing to officiate the biggest games and supporting the sport he serves so well.
