Dersingham Reserves hosted their second semi final in as many matches, this week hosting an in form Denver FC in the NWNL Div 1 Cup.

The home side kicked off and immediately applied pressure, pinning the visitors back.

Despite having the upper hand in the opening exchanges, Dersy had to wait for their first opening. Chris Nelligan capitalising on a fumble by the goalkeeper to convert from close range⚽, 1-0.

Denver began to grow into the game, creating some openings of their own, the home defence standing strong.

More sustained Dersingham pressure saw Chris Nelligan flick on a header for Joe Collison, the striker rounding the keeper but unfortunately unable to keep his shot down. More chances came for the hosts, yet they were unable to find the net.

Half Time.

The second half began like the first ended, Joe Collison being put through and lobbing the on rushing keeper⚽, 2-0.

The game was far from over and this wasn't to be the formality now expected from the home crowd. Dersingham's attack started to see less and less of the ball. An injury to Shaun Gelder saw him replaced by Alex Collison.

Denver were starting to get on top in this game, pushing Dersingham further back towards their own goal. Curtis Sharpe made his return from injury, replacing Chris Nelligan up top.

A mad 2 minutes saw Dersy concede, a long throw causing chaos in the box, Denver's big striker turning and converting⚽, 2-1.

Moments later and the visitors, carrying on momentum, were level, despite the best efforts of Alex Collison to keep the ball out⚽, 2-2.

The tables had turned, and Dersingham looked like a team about to capitulate. Aaron Howell making some fine saves, including one unbelievable stop, to keep his team in the game. Dersy created further chances, most notably Curtis Sharpe turning defenders inside out, unfortunately hitting the post with his effort.

Full Time 2-2, onto extra time.

The game was underway again, both sides beginning to look a bit leggy. The first half of extra time was a true stalemate, both teams matching each other with chances and last ditch defending.

AET HT 2-2.

Dersy upped their game in the final stage of this game, Curtis Sharpe getting to the ball just before the goalkeeper to flick home⚽, 3-2.

Denver came back once again, yet unable to find a way through a resilient and stubborn Dersingham defence.

Another chance for the home side, Curtis Sharpe causing mayhem in the box and being chopped down, penalty. Sharpe got up, dusting himself to cooly convert, sending the keeper the wrong way⚽, 4-2.

Back again came Denver, not giving up and causing several nervy moments at the end of the game. However, unable to get the goals.
Full Time 4-2.

A very difficult win against a good, spirited team in Denver, to send us marching into our 2nd final of the season. MOM this week, Dominic Howell and Michael Rodwell, outstanding performances from both of these players.

Next week we return to league action away against Birchwood.💛💙
