🥇 Congratulations to Timmy, one of our junior team members, on winning gold at All Stars BJJ Norwich this weekend!

It was great to see him applying newly learned techniques under competition pressure and securing the win by submission. 👏

A big congratulations also to Josh, another of our members but adult, for having the courage to step onto the competition mats. Although he didn't place this time, competing isn't only about bringing home a medal. Every time you step out there, you gain experience, learn something about yourself, and discover what you can work on next.

Diamonds are made under pressure. 💎 Wins build confidence, losses build lessons, and both are part of becoming a better grappler.

We're proud of both boys for representing Brothers4Life and, most importantly, for getting out there and giving it a go. 🥋

Today was a very special day for Alexandra as she was promoted to BROWN BELT. But this was not just another belt promotion. This belt carries a story.

Back in 2008, Manasses Filho received his brown belt from his teacher, Marcos Schubert Schubert Jiu-Jitsu Barreirinha - Curitiba/PR

It was Schubert’s own brown belt — one that had already travelled through years of hard training, sacrifice and achievement. Schubert had worn that very belt while standing on the international podium at the highest level of competition. Following his incredible performances on the international and IBJJF stage, Schubert was promoted to BLACK BELT.

From that moment, the belt represented far more than a piece of fabric. It carried the journey and sacrifices behind becoming the black belt who would eventually pass his knowledge and legacy to the next generation.
And that history continued with Manasses.

For years, the belt remained with him — carrying his teacher’s story alongside his own journey, victories, defeats and sacrifices.

Until today.

Alexandra has been writing her own chapter.She became a World Champion last year, after already earning two World Championship bronze medals across the Adult and Masters divisions. But beyond the medals and podiums, she has shown something even more important:

She has earned the responsibility that comes with this belt. So today, Manasses passed his brown belt — the same belt he received from Marcos Schubert in 2008 — to Alexandra.

Not simply as a gift.
Not simply because she was promoted.

But because he believes she can carry its history forward.

The story that began with Marcos Schubert, continued through Manasses Filho, and now passes to Alexandra.

Three people.
Three generations.
One belt.
One story.

And the story is still being written.Alexandra, this belt carries more than colour.

It carries the sweat and sacrifices of those who came before you.
Their victories.
Their disappointments.
Their dreams.
Their battles.

And now, it carries you. Wear it with pride. Wear it with humility. And most importantly… Keep the story alive.

Congratulations, Alex.

You have worked for this. You have earned this. And you deserve this.

The journey is far from over.

At Brothers for Life, we talk a lot about transparency and resilience, but those concepts only mean something if we practice them when things don’t go our way.

This past days Alexandra competed at the World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship. While the bracket didn’t go her way this time, we are choosing to share this moment openly because not sharing the tough days goes against everything we teach on our mats

True culture—whether we are talking about high-level adult competitors or the toddlers/juniors or any other classes that we teach every week—is built on the courage to step outside our comfort zone and take on challenges.

Mistakes and losses aren’t bad; they are just part of how we learn. Facing the outcome, showing up the next day, and trying again is normally the hardest part. It’s not the losing that tests you, it’s keeping going despite the loss, but this is where true growth happens, no matter how bad it feels at that time.
Win or lose, we stand behind our coaches and athletes and club members, and we want to show the best possible example to our members, community & the next generation coming up.

Alexandra is already channeling this entire experience straight into her training camp for the Abu Dhabi Worlds this November. And this is what it’s about: look forward, move forward. You aren’t your past; you are how you respond to it.

The work continues & we appreciate all you support.

Want to start BJJ but don’t feel fit enough? 🥋

One of the things we hear all the time is, “I want to try BJJ, but I need to get fitter first.”

The truth is, you don’t need to arrive strong, flexible, athletic or already in great shape. Your fitness develops WITH your jiu-jitsu.

You’ll learn new movements, you’ll get tired, you’ll make mistakes — just like everyone else on the mats, regardless of experience. That’s how we learn and grow.

At Brothers4Life, we want you to enjoy that process too. You can learn at your own pace, ask questions, have a laugh and build your confidence along the way.

Congratulations to Dan for his well-deserved brown belt 🟤🟤🟤⚫️🟤

Yesterday, 10th August, we had the absolute pleasure of promoting Dan to BJJ brown belt, and what a journey it’s been.

Dan started training with Manasses before Brothers4Life even officially opened its doors in 2016. Back then, he was part of a small group training together alongside people like our now black belt Joe — basically a bunch of little jiu-jitsu ‘babies’, we mean beginners 😁who had no idea where this journey would take them.

Before fully falling in love with jiu-jitsu, Dan trained and competed in MMA, having a few fights before eventually making BJJ his main focus.

His journey hasn’t been about having unlimited time to train. There was Covid, life changed, and now he has a young family — but he has continued to show up, learn and grow whenever he can.

And when Dan is on the mats, he makes that time count.

He trains hard, stays open-minded, studies in his own time and is always looking to improve. He’s also become a brilliant instructor — knowledgeable, motivating and genuinely invested in helping others get better.

And perhaps his greatest achievement of all…

He made it all the way through purple belt without deciding he was too advanced for the warm-up. 😂👏

Dan is usually right there working from the beginning to the end of the session, making the most of every bit of quality training he gets.

This brown belt represents years of learning, consistency, hard work and simply continuing to show up through different stages of life.

Massively deserved, Dan. We’re incredibly proud to have watched your journey from those early days to the grappler and instructor you are today.
