Reel legends fishing club Our club has grown from around 12 members at it inception to over 50 within 6 months. We fish once a week on Saturday or Sunday visiting around 10 venues and different lakes within.
As with i suspect most clubs some venues are more popular than others. Ours are currently Buttonhole Lake 2026 and Kingsland Reservoir .
Unfortunately last weekend had an angler sustain an injury...quite a nasty cut. As chairman of the club this led into a conversation regarding first aiders within our club to cover eventualities such as this. We realise that all venues will have the appropriately trained personel but they are not on the bank with us.
This conversation then moved onto considering more serious incidents requiring first aid. Obviously drowning and then (given that quite a high percentage of us anglers are older in years ) heart attack. Unfortunately a few years ago an angler at Buttonhole had such an episode and sadly passed away. Following this Buttonhole held fund raising matches and now have an onsite defibrilator. Several of our members attended these matches.
So we considered buying one for our club. Then it was suggested that maybe fundraising to provide a venue with one would be beneficial to a wider group of anglers. (Hopefully it is never needed)
So after a rather a long post i would like to announce that next year we will be fundraising for a defib for our good friends at Kingsland Resevoir.
It is a fantastic venue, well run and managed, improvements being made as and when they can and also have a charity set up to raise money for platforms and pathways etc. etc. to enable the disabled or less able to fish. As a club we intend to have at least one charity match per year to support local causes
