East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks U14's played their final game of a superb season last week.

Our final game was another derby game as we looked to do the double for the first time over this opposition as we faced Cottingham Rangers.

After our victory the week before the girls were in great spirits as we travelled to the University and knew that Cottingham would be looking to bounce back so it was expected to be a superb game.

The game started superbly for East Riding, playing on the front foot, moving the ball around playing some good football through the lines. Emily Maslin was playing deeper in midfield this week and was showing off her ability on the ball and bringing some creativity.

It wasn't long before our pressure told and in the 3rd minute Ava Featherstone picked up the ball turned her opponent to open up the game and play a ball forward to Izzy Murray who finished well to give Riding the lead.

East Riding continued to play well and perhaps should have gone further ahead but Cottingham responded brilliantly and started putting us under lots of pressure and Nell Gomerson had to make a few good saves. On 15 minutes Cottingham were awarded a fortuitous free kick on the edge of the box but they took full advantage with a wonderful ball in the box that we couldn't clear and it was suddenly 1-1.

The pressure continued from Cottingham forcing East Riding coaches to change formation and go to a back 4 however we were still lucky to keep the game level.

Just as the game headed to half time, East Riding against the run of play edged back ahead, another pass from Ava Featherstone in to Izzy Murray, Izzy however had a lot to do, driving at the opposition taking on 3 or 4 players weaving in and out before hitting the ball from just inside the box into the roof of the net, a late goal of the season contender. 😲🌟

At half-time the coaches spoke about controlling the game better as individuals and as a team, there was also another slight tweak in formation and tactics.

The second half was a much more even affair and much more controlled from East Riding, we looked after the ball better. The game however was end to end with both teams having chances and both teams coming close with both keepers making some good saves.

However it was East Riding that got the only goal of the second half, with 10 minutes remaining, ball was played forward and came out to Ava Featherstone who tried a through ball, it was blocked and came back to her, she took the ball inside 1 player before having fantastic awareness to play a little side pass to Izzy Murray who smashed the ball home into the bottom corner from just inside the box which completed yet another hattrick for Izzy.

The game finished 3-1 to East Riding, a fabulous advert for girls football and a brilliant hard fought game from both side saw our girls come out on top to take the win and complete the double. πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻

Parents player of the match - Grace Grandidge, Grace was terrific yet again in midfield, working extremely hard for the team up against a tough opponent who very rarely got the better of her, showed good quality and composure on the ball too in a superb performance. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ†

Coaches player's of the match - Emily Maslin and Ava Featherstone.

Emily started the game a little deeper playing in a central midfield role and was superb, working hard but showing real skill and quality on the ball driving past players to open the game up and create space and opportunities for others. A fantastic performance. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ†

Ava had a tremendous game too, playing in a her usual centre forward role. Her play was brilliant knowing when to drop in deep to lay the ball off and help retain possession and when to turn and drive at the opposition. Created 3 goals with a hattrick of assists with a brilliant all round performance. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ…°οΈπŸ…°οΈπŸ…°οΈπŸ†

East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks U14's on Saturday travelled to South Cave Sharks for their penultimate league game of the season.

After losing at home in a very tight match earlier in the season the girls arrived and were looking forward to the game.

The girls were barely on the pitch in their positions when the referee blew the whistle for ko, the girls scrambled to defend and cleared the ball away in a hurried fashion before going behind inside a minute from a strike on the edge of the box.

The girls were shocked and what followed was a good spell from Sharks before East Riding started to find their feet and grew in to the game. It wasn't too long before Riding levelled the game.

Rangers were seeing more of the ball and a nice little move down the left saw Amelia Wardell play a ball inside to Izzy Murray who beat a couple of players before striking the ball superbly from the edge of the box on the angle, across the keeper in to the bottom corner. 1-1

A switch in formation from the coaches saw East Riding start to control the game even more and they got their rewards, Grace Grandidge found a bit of space in midfield and played a fantastic defence splitting cross field ball for Izzy Murray who had made a great run between 2 defenders, she rounded the keeper to slot the ball home to give Rangers the lead.

A great response once again from our girls showing great spirit and character.

As the game headed to half-time South Cave got yet another fortuitous goal, a long ball forward over the top and some indecision allowed their forward to run on to it and to be fair she finished very well to level the game up at 2-2 at the break.

The second half begun, and more of the same followed in an end to end game with both teams giving their all.

Unfortunately, around 10 minutes after half time Sharks were infront, a corner whipped in and after a scramble somehow the ball went over the line to give them the lead again.

Rangers again responded superbly with the girls going on the attack, the South Cave keeper was certainly the busier making numerous saves to keep us at bay.

East Riding kept the pressure up with a few great corners to continue the pressure that we couldn't quite capitalise on and when we were clean through on goal, 1v1 with the keeper the ref pulled it back to award us a free-kick, a tough decision to take but we had to accept it.

As the game headed towards the end the South Cave keeper tipped another Izzy Murray effort on to the bar and unfortunately East Riding slipped to a defeat but how......we are not quite sure after another performance deserving of so much more. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Great effort girls as once again we showed we can mix it with the best in the division.

Parents player of the match - Beth Noble, Beth was fantastic in defence as she stood up to some very strong players, didn't dive in and read the game tremendously well time and time again to make some great tackles and clearances. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

Coaches player's of the match - Eve Mcdonald and Tia Murray.

Eve was superb in midfield, her breaking up of the play was second to none, getting a foot in regularly when she had no right to. Also reading the game exceptionally well and timed her tackles to perfection. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

Tia started in defence and was as solid as ever but a switch into midfield is where she really shone, bringing some much needed steel to our midfield, never shied away from a challenge coming out on top numerous times to win the ball back for us to start attacks. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks U14's player of the month for April......

April's award goes to Zofia Burn.

Zofia has had a great season, taking her game to a new level with very consistent performances throughout. What Zofia does can often go unnoticed, but not by our coaches.

Her workrate is phenomenal, working so hard for the team, gets stuck in, often against girls bigger than her but never shies away from a challenge, she is strong in the tackle and wins the ball back regularly for the team and has an eye for a pass chipping in with regular assists.

Zofia had a great month and was an instrumental part of the team playing in two Cup finals in April.

Well deserved Zofia!

On Tuesday evening, East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks U14's entertained Cottingham Rangers in the final home game of the season.

The girls were excited and looking forward to the Cottingham derby. πŸ’ͺ🏻πŸ’ͺ🏻 It was a lovely evening for a game of football.

The game started well for East Riding imposing themselves on Cottingham from the off not allowing them any time and space on the ball.

It wasn't long before East Riding had the early breakthrough after more pressure initially from the midfield forcing a mistake for Izzy Murray to intercept on the halfway who turned her opponent and raced away finishing superbly for a 1-0 lead.

Riding were keeping up the pressure and creating plenty of chances that we couldn't capitalise on, Cottingham had grown in to the game but hadn't really troubled our keeper.

Then East Riding doubled their lead from a throw in, down the left to Amelia Wardell who drove past a player and towards goal before bending a wonderful effort in to the far corner for a 2-0 half time lead.

The coaches spoke at half-time about keeping levels high and to keep the press going as it was working well but perhaps to try and pass the ball a bit quicker and not to have too many touches. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

The second half begun and a change of formation from Cottingham caused us a few problems early on as they imposed themselves more on the game.

Nell Gomerson in the Riding goal had to make a fabulous save from close range to keep the score at 2-0. East Riding were having to defend well as Cottingham pushed again winning consecutive corners putting us under lots of pressure.

Nell Gomerson was called into action again to deny Cottingham with 2 unbelievably outstanding saves, proving again why she's the best No1 in the league. πŸ§€πŸ˜€πŸ§€

Then East Riding grabbed a third to relieve some of the pressure as a Grace Grandidge through ball was latched onto to Izzy Murray who did the rest with a lovely finish.

Three soon turned in to four as Zofia Burn won the ball back brilliantly in midfield, got her head up to play a wonderful ball to Izzy Murray who rounded the keeper and slotted it home with her left foot for a 4-0 lead.

Cottingham showed great character though and hit back with 2 well taken quick goals to halve the deficit and continue to show they were not out of the game just yet.

East Riding though showed good character of their own as a huge Nell Gomerson kick was controlled well by Izzy Murray who turned past the defender and scored a great effort to make it 5-2.

Riding were not quite finished though as Amelia Wardell pressed high up the pitch forcing an error from the opposition as she blocked a clearance and Izzy Murray was in the right place as she scored her 5th goal of the game with another lovely finish.

An outstanding performance from all the girls in an emphatic win show casing hard work, playing some great football and scoring some fantastic goals.

Parents player of the match - Lottie Fewster, Lottie has been outstanding this season really working hard for the team and when in possession showing good quality on the ball with her calmness under pressure. A great game. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

Coaches player's of the match - Izzy Murray and Charlotte Lilley.

Izzy has had another amazing season and again showed why she is the best forward in the league. Scoring 5 goals but all with a different type of finish showing off her new boots and finishing ability. An outstanding game. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Charlotte was an absolute rock in the heart of our defence, also one of the best in the league at what she does. She shows fantastic desire and determination never letting her opponent past her and also made some superb driving runs in to midfield. A fantastic game. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

Also a special mention to Nell Gomerson, our No 1 who was outstanding and made some really important saves at the beginning of the second half to keep us ahead. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ§€πŸ’ͺ🏻

East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks U14's last Wednesday faced a tough home game in a re-run of the County Cup final.

It was set to be a tough game with Hessle Rangers sat at the top of the league pushing for the title.

The game started and there was nothing at all between the two sides, Hessle perhaps started the better but East Riding grew in to the game as both teams were playing some good football, being brave in possession and creating chances.

Then on 30 minutes Hessle took the lead against the run of play after a great ball and run down the left as their forward finished well from close range. Then a huge blow for East Riding as Hessle doubled their lead right on half-time with a great long range effort.

The coaches decided for a change of formation for the second half which perhaps didn't work out quite so well as we conceded 2 quick goals before Izzy Murray pulled one back after taking down a big kick from Nell Gomerson. Izzy turned past a few defenders before smashing an effort from 20yds past their keeper.

East Riding then had a good spell but couldn't take their chances as Hessle Rangers added a few more to win the game with a scoreline which perhaps looked more comfortable than it actually was.

East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks 1-6 Hessle Rangers

Parents player of the match - Charlotte Lilley, Charlotte had a tremendous match in the heart of defence, timing her tackles well, making plenty of slide tackles to disposess the opposition on numerous occasions. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

Coaches player's of the match - Grace Grandidge and Lottie Fewster.

Grace worked tirelessly in midfield, up against player's twice her size but never shied away from a tackle, won the ball back time after time and showed good composure and quality on the ball when looking to play forward. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

Lottie also put in a fantastic shift for the team, showed good quality on the ball finding her passes well starting off attacks and showed good strength when tackling the opposition. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ†πŸ’ͺ🏻

East Riding Rangers Reds U14's girls entertained South Cave Jaguars today at Cottingham KGV pavilion on a nice playing surface in warm and humid conditions.

The East Riding girls seemed up for it upon arrival and started the game strongly creating early chances but were unable to open the scoring until 17 minutes when Kaydee P managed to cut out a South Cave goal kick and strike the ball home for 1-0.

Almost identical to the first one Kaydee P cut out another goal kick only 5 minutes later to once again find the net with a low driven shot and make the score 2-0.

East Riding continued to apply pressure to the South Cave defence and goalkeeper who were holding strong however a third goal was added just before half time with a Lydia DC 30 yard strike which found the roof of the net to take us into half time at 3-0.

The start of the 2nd half saw South Cave playing a fair bit of football in the East Riding half of the pitch but the Reds stood strong to defend their goal before adding another one themselves through Scarlett W who latched onto an Alannah H knockdown to finish superbly into the bottom corner from outside the box 4-0.

Riding hadn't finished there and neither had Lydia DC after she found the net for the second time with a tidy close range finish and another great through ball and assist from Alannah H, 5-0.

With only a couple of minutes remaining a midfield battle saw the ball drop into a bit of space which was soon collected by Lily Dc who dribbled 30 yards at pace through the oncoming defensive challenges and work her way into the box to slot the ball home for 6-0.

East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks U14's on Saturday entertained Elloughton Blackburn who were pushing for the title.

Our girls are on a high after winning the Trophy Cup, last week and the as usual they were ready and looking forward to the game.

The game started and Elloughton were playing forward with intent moving the ball well, East Riding were having to work hard already and unfortunately fell behind to a bit of a scrappy goal that found its way over the line on 6 minutes.

It was a blow for the Rangers girls but they responded as only they know how.....they dug in a battled hard before starting to gain a foothold in the game and have an impact of their own.

The game was very even and on 27 minutes we had an equaliser, Charlotte Lilley stepped out of defence to win the ball back and played a super cross field ball into Izzy Murray, Izzy turned her defender and drove down the line before expertly striking the ball over the opposition keeper.

Half time and East Riding were right in the game and were told to carry on in the same vein, the coaches knew with a bare 11 it would be tough but knew they could do it.

The second half was very much the same as the first, an end to end game with both teams hitting the post as they both came close to going ahead.

East Riding were then awarded a penalty after a very late tackle, unfortunately the ball got stuck in a slight divet when taking it and unfortunately the keeper saved it to keep the scores level.

As the game neared the final whistle with around 30 seconds to go the Riding girls saw what would have been a fantastic result taken away from them with a super strike from 20yds from the Elloughton midfielder to win the game.

The players, coaches and parents were distraught as they fully deserved to take at the very least a point, however that has been our season in the league, just not quite getting the results we deserve.

FT
East Riding Rangers Girls Blacks 1-2 Elloughton Blackburn

Parents player of the match - Beth Noble, Beth had a terrific game defending superbly at the heart of our defence. Goes about her job quietly reading the game time and time again to make interceptions and also made plenty of tackles all game standing up the Elloughton forward who didn't get past her all game. πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ†πŸ‘πŸ»

Coaches player's of the match - Flo White and Ava Featherstone.

Flo was also superb at the back, making plenty of tackles and interceptions too. Flo also never let her opponent past her and stepped out on a number of occasions to get tight to her opponent again stopping them getting past her. Shows great ability on the ball after winning it back to play calm and composed passes forward. πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ†πŸ‘πŸ»

Ava was also outstanding in our forward line, we wanted to take the game to Elloughton and Ava did just that. Firstly, holding up the ball well to bring others into play and also turning her opponent to play some nice passes forward. Ava also worked extremely hard off the ball, closing down and pressing to put pressure on the opposition and take away the time they had on the ball. πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ†πŸ‘πŸ»
