FULL TIME | AC Anlaby 2-5 New Kings County FC

An excellent performance from the lads as we came away with a deserved 5-2 victory against a strong AC Anlaby side.

We started the game with real intensity, moving the ball quickly and creating chances from the first whistle. Connor Calvert opened the scoring before Matty Meakin took centre stage, grabbing an impressive hat-trick with three clinical finishes. Declan Hallett completed the scoring to cap off an outstanding attacking display.

Although we conceded twice, the team’s character never wavered. We lost composure for the last 15 minutes conceding 2 sloppy goals,but throughout the 90 minutes we played our football, and controlled the majority of the game with quality passing and relentless work rate.

A special mention goes to Youseff Sali, who was deservedly named Man of the Match. His energy, composure on the ball and all-round contribution were outstanding throughout the 90 minutes

This weekend, we take on AC Anlaby in what promises to be another hard-fought game. With several players unavailable due to holidays and injuries, we know it will be a tough test, but we’re looking forward to the challenge ahead.

FULL-TIME | Swanfield FC 5–3 New Kings County FC

Today we took on Swanfield FC in another valuable pre-season test.

The game started at a high tempo, with both sides looking evenly matched. Unfortunately, a sloppy error at the back gifted Swanfield the opening goal, allowing them to finish into an empty net.

The response from New Kings was excellent. For the next 20 minutes we controlled the game, moving the ball well and creating chances. Matty Meakin slid a perfectly weighted pass through to Harvey Wilkinson, who continued his outstanding pre-season goalscoring form with a composed finish. Shortly afterwards, Shaun Knowles picked the ball up deep inside his own half, drove past several players and somehow found the net from an improbable angle to put us 2–1 ahead.

Moments later, Youssef Sali produced an inch-perfect through ball for Matty Meakin, who calmly finished, only for the goal to be ruled out by what looked to be a very questionable offside decision.

That proved to be a turning point. Swanfield scored against the run of play, regained control and capitalised on a spell where we looked shaken and dropped too deep. Their relentless energy and pressing paid off as they added two more goals to deservedly move 4–2 in front.

It wasn’t until around the final 25 minutes that New Kings began to play with the fluency and confidence we’ve come to expect. We moved the ball far better and created chance after chance, but Swanfield’s goalkeeper was outstanding, producing several excellent saves that kept them in front.

Eventually, Declan Hallett delivered a dangerous ball into the box and captain Josh Adams slotted home to reduce the deficit to 4–3.

We pushed hard for an equaliser, but committing bodies forward inevitably left spaces at the back. With tired legs setting in, Swanfield capitalised and scored with the last kick of the game to make it 5–3.

We were the better side for the opening 20 minutes and the closing 20 minutes, but Swanfield’s energy, athleticism and clinical finishing during the middle stages of the game ultimately proved the difference. For large spells, we simply weren’t at the level we know we’re capable of.

That’s exactly what pre-season is for. We learn, we improve and we move on to the next challenge.

Today we took on East Yorkshire United, and as expected, it proved to be a tough test.

New Kings started on the front foot, dominating possession and controlling the tempo throughout the first half. The breakthrough came when Jak Eden played a perfectly weighted through ball to Shaun Knowles, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner.

The lead was then doubled when Declan Hallett played Harvey Wilkinson through on goal, and he finished with ease to make it 2-0.

New Kings added a third before the break when a long ball found Matty Meakin, who intelligently poked the ball into the path of Declan Hallett. Hallett then played Harvey Wilkinson through, and he made no mistake, calmly finishing to grab his second goal of the afternoon and send New Kings into half-time with a deserved 3-0 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with New Kings continuing to control the game and create chances, although they were unable to add to their tally. Despite the scoreline, East Yorkshire United deserve credit for their performance and, at times, showed real quality in their play.

Most importantly, it was another valuable pre-season run-out, with plenty of minutes in the legs and another positive step forward as we continue our preparations for the season ahead.
