Name: Emily
Position: Junior coach and umpire

My story: the start, middle and end is.. I LOVE HOCKEY!

I started playing when our junior club re-emerged on our Sunday morning slot in 2016. Which made me 5 years old and I haven't stopped. My journey has taken me all the way from Mansfield Aztecs Mini's, to Aztecs Ladies 1s. It's taken me everywhere!
I love hockey, umpiring and I love helping out at our juniors, coaching on and off the pitch. Mansfield Aztecs are my beginning and my family and no matter where I go they will always be my home.
I want our juniors to know they can reach for the stars, make friends everywhere they go and have so much fun along the way.

If you would like to join us for fun and friends come down on Sunday mornings to Kingsway park, Kirkby in Ashfield

Name: Harrison
Position: Junior coach

I first joined Mansfield Aztec juniors when I was 6 years old. A teacher at my primary school told me all about the club as she was a coach at the time and asked if I’d like to come along for a try!
Fast forward 10 years and I’m still here. Through the years I’ve played in the badgers tournaments, NODE tournaments and have had the privilege of playing for East Midlands lions. I’ve also trained and played for Notts county hockey club, but my heart is here with Mansfield.
When I turned 12 I started training with Mansfield men, playing in the 5th team, I’m gradually working my way up, I now play in the men’s 3rd team.
Hockey has always and will always be my sport, and now it’s time to give back to the club that has given me so many opportunities. Sunday mornings are great fun, I normally help train the goal keepers, and let’s be honest who wouldn’t love whacking balls into a goal 😂

A special post today!

Our club President, coach and long standing Aztecs member - Debbie Aspinall, has been awarded an Inspirational Volunteer Award with Room to Reward!

Christine Crow entered the club into the recognition scheme, run by the small charity, Room to Reward. This charity recognises the importance of saying ‘thank you’ to the exceptional volunteers who give up their time for the benefit of others.

Deb was with the club when it began in 1995, and played way before that when it was known as Pretty Polly HC. On top of that, Deb has been training our junior club members since 1997! Still today, giving up her Sunday mornings to help train the next generations of Aztecs players! Over 38 years of dedication makes Deb most deserved winner of this award.

On behalf of every single Aztec, past and present, we say thank you, Debbie!

Name: Dave
Position: GoalKeeping Coach

I started playing for Mansfield Hockey Club when I was 15 and have always been a goalkeeper.

I took a short break when my son was young, my son then started playing with a junior team as a goalkeeper and since then we have been goalkeepers together with Mansfield Hockey Club.

I joined Aztec Juniors because goalKeeping is quite niche and needs specific training, I felt I could support and train our young members by passing on my skills.

We have so much fun at Aztec Juniors, but along side that we are learning about teamwork, communication, and respect.

Name: Angelo
Position: U12’s coach

I've played hockey since I was 12, a very long time ago. And played at all sorts of levels in a whole bunch of places. My favourite was playing on South Wales for Swansea, purely because I could see the beach from our pitch 🤷🏻‍♂

I moved to Mansfield HC three years ago from Bradford HC where I was coaching juniors and running the badgers team. I found a fantastic club here with a great balance between welcome and inclusion, and development and excellence.

As my kids play and were young enough to come to junior training, I quickly became involved with juniors here as well. My highlights since coming here have been watching my own kids improve, and getting to play hockey with them. And also watching so many of our juniors step into senior hockey and be great. I've even had the pleasure of playing with some of them in the men's team. 😊
