Kirkcaldy & Dysart Under-20s suffered a 6-1 defeat to Cowdenbeath Central Under-20s in Cowdenbeath.

The Kirkcaldy side enjoyed a bright start to the first half and were rewarded with a goal after 8 minutes. Clever passes through the Cowdenbeath Central lines from Ewan White and Danny Douglas allowed Scott Thomson to smartly knock the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to open the captain’s scoring tally for the season.

However, despite more positive play from Kirkcaldy & Dysart – including three good chances for Jamie Lindsay – the YM were unable to deal with the host’s direct style and conceded 3 goals going into half time.

Although remaining competitive in the second half with chances from Owen Wilson and Danny Douglas, three further goals for Cowdenbeath Central left Kirkcaldy & Dysart waiting a little longer for their first win of the East of Scotland Development League campaign.

Kirkcaldy & Dysart Under-20s slumped to a 5-0 defeat to Oakley United Under-20s, though the score didn’t tell the full story of the match.

The Kirkcaldy side were in firm control of the early period of the game – stifling the East of Scotland Northern Conference Development League leaders and coming close via a Kian Simpson shot from the edge of the box which whistled just wide of the post.

However, a Kirkcaldy & Dysart own goal and an Oakley United effort on the stroke of half-time following a failed clearance saw a poor conclusion to an otherwise stellar first half for the YM.

Despite an excellent penalty save by Kobie Thomson in the final minutes of the game and Kirkcaldy & Dysart continuing to prove more than a match for the visitors throughout the second half, three further Oakley United strikes rounded off a frustrating night for Kirkcaldy & Dysart.

Game of missed opportunities

Kirkcaldy and Dysart U20s earned their first point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Lochee United, but will be disappointed not to have left Dundee with three points.
The Kirkcaldy side enjoyed the majority of chances in the first half with Jamie Findlay, Kian Simpson, Blair Bowie and Kai Copeland all coming close.
Although being reduced to ten players following an early second half red card for Blair Bowie, Jamie Findlay converted a cut-back to power the YM into a well-deserved lead.
A Lochee United equaliser midway through the second half eventually opened up the game with numerous chances following for both sides. Kirkcaldy & Dysart’s dogged resistance almost paid off with a late chance from goalkeeper-turned-midfielder Seif Saad, and a brilliant solo effort by Jamie Findlay being cleared off the line with the last kick of the game.
Despite the result, Kirkcaldy & Dysart can take numerous positives from a hard-working performance which sees them get off the mark in their East of Scotland Development League campaign.

Game of two halves, but a lot to be proud of tonight

Kirkcaldy & Dysart Under-20s kicked off their East of Scotland Development League campaign with a gutsy 2-1 loss to Downfield Juniors Under-20s in Kirkcaldy.

The Kirkcaldy side endured a nervy first half which was largely dominated by the visitors, who went into the break with a well-deserved two goal lead. However, late chances from Ewan White and Scott Thomson – who forced a good save from the goalkeeper – showed signs of the under-20s playing themselves back into the match.

A back-and-forth second half saw a rejuvenated Kirkcaldy & Dysart prove to be more than a match for the visitors with impressive early saves from Kobie Thomson, and further chances for Scott Thomson and Owen Wilson, keeping the YM in the game.

A late period of intense Kirkcaldy & Dysart pressure led to our goal in the 87th minute. A long ball from Steven Pate beat the offside trap from Downfield Juniors defence and allowed substitute Danny Douglas to drift inside and lob the keeper from the edge of the box.

However, the YM were unable to find the equaliser in a tough, but ultimately positive, opening fixture.
