We caught up with Dave, our race Director, following a successful Wesham Summer 10k, Interclub and a cheeky win at the predictor race 👏

🏃♂️ Joining Wesham
Dave joined Wesham back in May 2014, after dipping his toes into the running world with the Preston 10k the year before. As he entered more 10ks and parkruns, he quickly realised how strong the local club scene was - and Wesham soon became the obvious choice. The rest, as they say, is history.
🤝 Favourite Events
Team events are where Dave truly comes alive.
-Interclubs - the atmosphere, the camaraderie, the sea of blue vests 🩵
-Cross Country - mud, grit, and proper team spirit
He’s also run the London Marathon three times, each one an unforgettable experience.
And in recent years? A surprising twist - theme park races have become a regular feature 🎢😄 Rollercoasters and racing… why not?
🏁 Preferred Distance
The 10k is Dave’s sweet spot - that perfect blend of speed and endurance.
Although right now he’s been racing shorter distances… with the small exception of casually taking on the Snowdon Marathon last year 🏔️
🌳 parkrun Adventures
Saturday isn’t Saturday - it’s parkrunday.
Preston is technically his home event, but he’s rarely there. Instead, Dave has run well over 100 different parkruns, exploring courses all over the country.
His standout favourite? Fountains Abbey — stunning, atmospheric, and one of the most impressive parkrun settings you’ll find ✨
🔁 Why He Keeps Going Back
Simple: the joy of exploring new courses, the community feel, and the weekly ritual that every runner secretly loves.
🎤 Race Director Role
Dave stepped into the Race Director role in 2022, and it’s been incredibly rewarding.
He loves seeing everything come together - but he’s quick to point out that most runners never see the mountain of behind‑the‑scenes work that makes a race possible.
Planning, permits, logistics, marshals, safety… it’s a huge job, and he handles it brilliantly 👏

The marshals - supportive, loud, encouraging, and everywhere you need them 🙌 🔊
The course - fast enough for PB chasers, friendly enough for first‑timers.
That balance keeps runners returning year after year.

Dave loves running for Wesham - especially now, with so many new members bringing fresh energy.
The only downside? With all the new talent flying through the ranks, he jokes he’ll need to start running faster if he wants to keep counting for the Interclub team 😅💨
🥇 Predictor Race Win
A huge congratulations to Dave - only 3 seconds out in the Predictor Race taking the joint win with John Collier 🏆
His secret?
“Being honest — I knew what Lee Nixon had predicted and knew he was racing it, so I judged my pace off what he was doing!”
