AS THE SUN SETS ON THE 2026 SEASON…
It’s time to reflect on what has been a fantastic season for Staffield Cricket Club.
This season has seen more players than ever represent the club across our three teams. While other clubs continue to struggle for numbers and cricket in general has seen participation dwindle, we’ve doubled our playing numbers over the last few seasons — something we should all be incredibly proud of.
A huge amount of credit goes to our captains:
🏏 1st XI – Chris Tuer
🏏 Sunday XI – Rob Dawson
🏏 Midweek XI – Xander Vasey
All three have worked tirelessly throughout the season to keep teams on the pitch and the club moving forward.
🏆 ON THE PITCH
The 1st XI finished an excellent 3rd, behind strong Stainton and Workington sides.
The Sunday XI finished 5th in Sunday League Division 2, continuing to provide plenty of cricket and opportunities for players across the club.
The Midweek XI, superbly led by Xander Vasey, showcased some fantastic young talent coming through the club and went on to win the Cumbria Villages Midweek League! 🏆
And finally, our Spartans 8-a-side team successfully retained their Temple Sowerby Blast title! 🏆
🌳 OFF THE PITCH
We continue to have one of the best grounds in the league, along with teas that are quite simply unmatched.
Huge thanks to Nev and Ann, and to everyone else who chips in throughout the season to make that happen. 👏
We are also continually grateful to all our sponsors — far too many to mention individually. Without your support, the club simply couldn’t function, and we certainly wouldn’t be able to fund the kids’ cricket… or Nev’s increasingly expensive loam habit! 😂
We hope everyone has enjoyed a few drinks, some great cricket and a fantastic summer at The Old Showfield.

While we reflect on 2026, we’re already looking ahead.
🛠️ End-of-season ground maintenance is underway
🍻 The Fines ’Do is only a couple of weeks away
🏆 Presentation Night is not far behind
🏏 Winter nets are booked
🌱 And there are big plans ahead for spring and the 2027 season…
