Kirrie Thistle travelled through to Fairmuir Park where they faced opponents Riverside West End in the league. Kirrie still looking to start their points tally on the board while Riverside already gaining five so far.
The match started and another tough day at the office for Kirrie would show. Riverside enjoyed most of the ball and entertained themselves with some nice passing sequences while Kirrie sat off and allowed it.
The opponents would take the lead within the fifteen minute mark. A cross from the left wing was met well by the leaping attacker who headed across the goal and into the net. 0-1.
Kirrie steadied the ship slightly and managed to get away a few chances themselves. Some chances went begging and the others were met well by the Riverside defence.
West End would grab their second goal five minutes from half time. A ball into the box turned into a massive scramble and unfortunately a Kirrie defender tried clearing their lines only for the ball to rebound off another teammate and go backwards into the goal. 0-2.
Half time approached and the management let off some steam and rightly so. The effort shown from the first half was merely a shadow of what this team can produce and nowhere near the standard of what has been asked of.
The second half was underway and a chance to take the game back to the away side came for Kirrie. The ball fell twenty yards out from goal and McCathie was there to roll it out his feet and fired his shot over the goalkeeper, pecking the crossbar and in. 1-2.
Five minutes after, Riverside grabbed a third goal and gained more breathing space. A pass intercepted by the midfielder was played over to their attacker who caught Milligan off his line and dinked the ball over him and into the net. 1-3.
Three more goals would come for Riverside as they ran riot in the last half hour. Granted the opponents played well during the game, Kirrie were no where near the level of competition that they know they can be. A tough day at the office indeed. 1-6.
A penalty was awarded to Riverside in the final minutes of the game as the Kirrie defender chopped down their attacker. The player stepped up and struck to his left, Milligan matched him and spared more troubles that were already shown on the day. Full time.
No more needs to be said on the game however the reaction to it for the rest of the season needs to be shown and immediately. Hard work is mandatory and quite frankly the bare minimum in order to be a successful team. Credit to West End and we wish them well for the remainder.
