Knottingley Mustangs U18's 2026

Again our game has fallen foul to the elements with the Farnley Falcons pitch being declared unplayable by the match official.

Whilst this is disappointing news we also accept and completely understand that this is all in the very best interests of the welfare of all players.

The boys will now have a short break before preparing for the Wakefield District Cup final where they'll be looking to retain the title against league leaders Normanton Knights next month.

More details on that and all other fixtures in due course.

The boys are due to be back on the road this Sunday in league action as they travel to vast improved Farnley Falcons.

As the temperature rises there is risk as ever that again the pitches may be deemed to hard and unplayable, but at this time we are confirmed for a 11am kick off pending any pitch inspection.

The Mustangs will be going into this one raring albeit depleted with several boys away on holiday, however the side is still confident of taking the two valuable leagues points to keep the pressure on league leaders Normanton Knights.

As ever, the lads would love to see as many of you there on the sidelines as possible to cheer them on in their penultimate league fixture together.

Unfortunately our game tomorrow has been called off following a pitch inspection this morning with the referee deeming the pitch to be unplayable due to being too hard.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

It's the Mustangs penultimate division 2 league fixture of the 2026 campaign and a trip over to Bradford side Queensbury awaits them.

The boys have trained relatively well this week in preparation for an anticipated tough encounter against a strong Queensbury side.

A win will keep the extremely thin chances of a league title alive for Knottingley as it will Queensbury who took the spoils last time out at Howard's Field.

This should be a cracker of a game so if you can, please make the journey with us and get behind these boys to hopefully cheer them home with the invaluable two league points.

Unfortunately this fixture has now been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances out of our control.

Again we are left without a game having prepared well all week in anticipation of a tough fixture.

Our focus now turns to next week as we are due to travel to Queensbury where we will be looking for revenge having lost last time out.

It's game week this week and the Mustangs are on home soil as they face the in-form Wakefield Hawks at Howard's Field.

This is another 'must win game' for the boys if they are to keep their slim hopes of attaining pole position come the end of the 2026 campaign.
The Mustangs are now in joint first place with Normanton Knights following their impressive win last time out and courtesy of a 24-0 forfeit win from Kippax Welfare.
The Knights and other teams however hold the advantage with both points difference and games in hand over Knottingley, but a win on Sunday puts the pressure back on the other teams.

This is also the final home game of the season for our under 18's with 2 away fixtures remaining afterwards plus the eagerly anticipated Wakefield District Cup final at Featherstone Rovers.

As ever, the team and staff would love to see as many of you down to cheer on the team who will be up against it with a depleted squad, one which we are still confident can get a job done.

For some it will be the last time they grace the green of Howard's Field in a Mustang's jersey so please come show your support.

Knottingley Mustangs 32 - 14 Normanton Knights

The Mustangs deservedly came away with the spoils in this one largely down to an almost perfect first half performance where they raced into a 22 point unanswered lead.

Knottingley had all the possession early on and ill discipline from the visitors allowed the home side to be piggy backed up field with repeat penalties.
Quick hands moving the ball from right to left found the impressive centre Franki who powered over to score out wide despite the best efforts of 3 Knights defenders.
Marley converting with ease to edge the Mustangs into a deserved 6-0 lead with Normanton yet to touch the ball.

The hosts soon extended their lead thanks to a barnstorming run close to the line from powerhouse Harrison who couldn't be stopped and he dotted down for a kick that Marley duly converted from directly in front.

Normanton began to grow into the game but the Knottingley defence stood tall and kept the visitors at bay.

A break in midfield from Harrison found the supporting Matty and he raced under the posts for the next try of the game, again Marley making no mistakes as he turned 4 into 6 and the Mustangs looked good value for their 18 score lead.

Again the hosts dominated and great defence, this time from Jack W forced Normanton to drop out following a great kick chase effort.

In form centre Franki showed tremendous strength once again to barge his way over out on the right edge for his 2nd try of the afternoon. Unfortunately Marley seeing his conversion sail agonisingly wide of the uprights with just 5 minutes left on the clock.

Credit to the knights as they showed real character and why they are a top side with their never say die attitude to score to the side of the posts despite some last ditch Mustang efforts to go in at the break with a lifeline at 22-6.

The home side got the 2nd half underway with a deep kick off and capitalised on an awful bounce to regain possession.
It was in this set that any chance of a comeback was quashed as Harrison crashed over for his 2nd try of the afternoon, Marley adding the extras against a strong head wind.

Both sides then made errors and an arm wrestle of sorts took over, but a brilliant break from deep by Brandon from a delightful inside ball by Jack W, saw him race away before drawing the full back and sending centre Marley away to score in the corner for a try Matty was unable to convert from the touchline.

The Mustangs took their foot off the gas in the remaining 15 minutes and, aided by giving away some poor penalties allowed a determined knights side to deservedly bag two late unconverted tries to give the scoreboard a more respectable look as the game finished 32-14.

In a good, solid, all round performance from the Knottingley side it was hard to pick out the stand outs but Mason, Jack W, Harrison, Tom and Franki put in top shifts ably assisted by Brandon and the returning Jamie.

Next up the boys are at home to another local rival as they host Kippax Welfare next Sunday, full details yet to be confirmed.

The Mustangs come out of this top of the table clash victorious with a resounding performance here at Howard's Field.

The coaches have named their 17 ahead of tomorrow's mouthwatering clash with table toppers Normanton Knights.

With a few players unavailable through holiday commitments, the side welcome back Tristan from long term injury along with Zach who has been out through work commitments.

Also back in the squad this week are both Jamie and Jack W who missed the reverse fixture at Normanton and no doubt will bolster the Mustangs ranks.

Kick off is 12:30 and we have the outdoor bar serving cold drinks throughout....so come join us and get behind the boys 🐴

After a short break the lads are back in action this Sunday as they welcome league leaders Normanton Knights to Howard's Field.

The Knights will be in a confident mood having beat the Mustangs with ease only a few weeks ago, but won't be taking things for granted, especially seeing the Mustangs turn over the impressive Hull Wyke last time out.
