Mustangs 8 - Queensbury 20

The Mustangs gave arguably their worst performance of the season against a well drilled and determined Queensbury side who took the two points on offer to leapfrog the hosts in the league table.

From the onset it wasn't the best of starts for Knottingley as a couple of players decided to not play at the eleventh hour and one without notifying the team of their absence.

Low completions resulted in good territory with repeat sets for the visitors who were able to expose weak defending out wide to open the scoring.

From the following kick off, Queensbury continued to play smart and again took advantage of poor errors by the hosts to again score out wide for another unconverted try.

The introduction of Harrison from the bench sparked life into the Mustangs outfit and despite not being able to train of late, managed to crash through several would be defenders to score on the left edge for a try Marley was unlucky not to convert.

Unfortunately normal service resumed and Queensbury bagged a further try brace to take a well deserved 16-4 lead into the halftime break.

The second half began to look more of an even balanced contest with neither side giving a back step.
It wasn't until the 55th minute the deadlock was eventually broken, a fine solo effort from captain Franki who broke from deep to race some 65 metres to score out wide.
Again Marley seeing his goal kick drift wide of the uprights.

The Mustangs revival was short lived as the visitors themselves scored out wide despite the best efforts of debutant Coby-Lee.

Best for Mustangs in a well below par performance were Cole, Harrison and Jamie who all worked tirelessly throughout.

The Mustangs are without a game this weekend but are back in league action a week on Wednesday when they make the short trip the league leaders Normanton Knights.

Knottingley Mustangs 44 - 18 Farnley Falcons

The Mustangs ran out comfortable winners in the sunshine down at Howard's Field in a game not without controversy.

It took just two minutes before the hosts got the scoreboard ticking as a short kick on the last was fumbled by a Farnley Falcons player, but gleefully collected by powerhouse prop Harrison who crashed over for a try converted by Marley.

2 minutes later, key man Matty scored the first of his try hat-trick scored in just 12 minutes.
Harrison collecting from deep and breaking to the halfway before a superb offload found the supporting Cole who in turn released Matty with a suspected forward pass which the referee pointed to the line to award the try much to the disbelief to everyone within the ground including Matty himself.
Marley unable to convert the extras on this occasion.

A rapid ten minute try brace from Matty took his tally to 3 for the day with Marley adding one further conversion as the home side raced into a deserved 20-0 lead.

Next to cross was the impressive Tom, playing out of position for his side and interlinking nicely with Matty before bamboozling his way to the whitewash for a try converted by Marley.

The Mustangs took their convincing halftime lead into the sheds and normal service was resumed just 3 minutes into the second period as Harrison crashed onto a lovely Jack W line ball to skittle a number of defenders out of the way to dot the ball down next to the uprights.
Marley coolly adding the additional two points with ease and the Mustangs looking good for putting on more points.

However, Farnley had other ideas and full credit to them for their never say die attitude as they responded with a fine individual try from what appeared to be a nothing kick, turning it into a converted try.

Fast hands down the right edge from Knottingley saw them respond almost immediately to send centre Marley racing away. The Falcons full back looked to stop him short but released him at the same time to allow Marley to regain his feet and dive over for a deserved try that he successfully goaled from out wide.

The final minutes saw Farnley go back to back with converted tries that will no doubt have frustrated the Mustangs coaching team on what should have been a far more convincing scoreline.

Credit to Farnley for battling to the end when many teams could have just capitulated, getting their just rewards with some well taken tries to make the scoreboard more respectable.

Knottingley Mustangs 36 - 4 Sharlston Rovers

The Mustangs booked their place in this year's Wakefield District Cup final after overcoming a resilient Sharlston side at Howard's Field.

In typical cup rugby both sides looked to test each other with neither side willing to back down in a game well officiated by referee Benjamin Milner.

A lovely switch play between Tom and Matty so the latter race through and behind the posts for the games opening try.
Marley taking over the goalkicking duties made no mistake from in front to nudge his side into a deserved 6-0 lead.

With their tales up and sensing more joy down the opposition left edge, in form backrow man Jack E crossed for the next try that was also converted to extend the hosts lead by 12.

Rovers showed real character and resilience as they camped on the Mustangs line, benefitting from repeat sets that they eventually capitalised on with the 4th repeat set to cross out wide despite some last ditch efforts from the home side who'd defended astoundingly.

A great ball equally met by a super line saw Jack E romp through a gaping hole in the Rovers line from 30 metres out before pirouetting around the last defender to place the ball down under the posts.
Again Marley making no mistakes from in front to send the home side into a comfortable 18-4 half time lead.

Knottingley started the second half as they'd finished and soon saw Rovers pinned inside their own 10 through some aggressive defence.
A kick clearance reached the halfway line and was collected on the full by Franki, who in turn put on the after burners to race down the left edge and score a delightful solo try effort.
Marley remained consistent with the boot as he again added the extras to push the hosts into a 24-4 lead with 30 minutes on the clock remaining.

Some great hands and support play saw the selfless Matty pass onto hardworking forward Ben who dived over for his first try of the 2026 campaign, Marley converting from straight in front.

Another well worked team try from the Mustangs wrapped up this clash as a sublime short ball from Jack W sent Mason racing away with support options either side and he gave the perfect pass back on the inside to Matty who raced away to score a well deserved 2nd try.
Marley again converted with ease to make it 6 from 6 with the boot.

Final score - Mustangs 36 - 4 Rovers

Mustangs will now face either Bronte Barbarians or Normanton Knights on the 8th of July in this year's district cup final at Featherstone Rovers.
