🏊‍♀️ County Championships – Weekend 3 Round-Up 🏊‍♂️
A brilliant final weekend of County Championships, kicking off with a big Freestyle Saturday and finishing in style with IMs and relays on Sunday.
Saturday Morning
The weekend got underway with a packed freestyle programme.
Girls 50 Free: Ella, Emma, Abby, Rosie, Liesel, Bea and Tati were all in action, with Rosie and Tati also doubling up in the 200 Back.
Boys 100 Free: James, Sam, Charlie and Sammy took to the blocks, with James, Sammy, Charlie and Zack also racing the 100 IM.
The day started superbly with the Boys 100 Free. James, Charlie, Sam and Sammy all produced excellent swims, with James, Charlie and Sam making finals and Sammy just missing out as 2nd reserve. Huge PBs all round, with Sam agonisingly close to breaking the 60-second barrier in 1:00.13.
Next up was the Girls 50 Free, and once again some really strong swims. All the girls were on or around their PBs, with Ella and Liesel securing finals spots. Special mentions to Tati, who broke the 30-second barrier for the first time, and Emma, who showed great resilience to return to form after a tough year with injuries and illness.
The Boys 100 IM followed — always a great splash-and-dash event. More strong PB swimming, with Zack and James showing superb underwater skills, and Sammy and Charlie booking their places in the finals. These boys are really hitting form at the right time of the season.
Saturday Finals
We had seven Knutsford finalists to cheer on:
Charlie finished 8th in the Boys 100 Free
Sam went even quicker again, finishing 7th in 1:00.09
James produced a fantastic swim to claim Bronze 🥉 in a thrilling race
And in the IM Charlie, and Sammy represented the Vikings in finals, Charlie taking 8th place and Sammy 5th.
In the girls’ finals:
Liesel swam a brilliant PB of 29.25 to finish 6th in an incredibly competitive final
Ella continued her outstanding championships, taking Open Age Gold 🥇, reclaiming her Open Age title 🏆, and setting a NEW COUNTY RECORD of 26.60 — a truly huge achievement. Well done Ella!
Saturday Afternoon
The afternoon session featured Girls 50 Back and 200 Free, with Ella, Abby, Rosie, Liesel, Tati and Tylia in action. Almost everyone produced PBs in the 200s, with Ella and Rosie finishing 4th and 6th in their age groups. Abby and Tati both delivered excellent technical swims for strong PBs, and Ella broke 2:10.00 for the first time.
In the 50 Back, Tati, Rosie and Liesel were back in the water. Rosie again impressed with her underwater work, while Tati produced a massive PB to make finals. In the finals, Rosie and Liesel finished 6th and 5th respectively, and Tati smashed her heat time once again with another big PB.
The day finished with the Boys 200 Back, where Sammy put in a strong swim around his PB — good enough to secure another Bronze 🥉, capping off a great championships for him.
Sunday – 200 IM
The final individual event of the championships saw 10 swimmers racing: Sammy, James, Charlie, Ella, Sam, Dylan, Tati, Abi F, Rosie and Liesel.
After three long weekends, there were some very tired swimmers, but effort and skill were outstanding. Special mentions to James, who swam a superb 4-second PB, and Tati, also taking 4 seconds off with an excellent back 100m and strong breast and free legs.
We came away with three top-8 finishes:
Sammy – 4th
James – 7th
Ella – 6th
Relays
The relays were hugely exciting, with so many positives to take away. While we were unlucky not to come away with medals, we mixed it superbly with some of the biggest clubs.
The 11/12 girls were outstanding, many racing in their first county relays — and for some, their first proper meet (special mention to Emily Whiteside). The progress these girls have made since Arena League is fantastic.
The 13/14 age group were consistently close to medals, and our Open Age swimmers were just touched out of bronze in the 4x50 Mixed Freestyle Relay. Some of the split times across the board were sensational, and with many swimmers staying in the same relay age groups next year, there’s plenty to be excited about.
A huge well done to all swimmers who took part over the last three weekends — I’m incredibly proud of every single one of you.
Thank You
A massive thank you to Vicky, Matt and John for all their help throughout the championships, and to the entire coaching team back at the Leisure Centre — especially Nicola and Phoebe for their work with the Foundation and P2 swimmers.
Thanks also to Jeff, Alan, Nicola, Emma, Linz and all the volunteers who make these championships happen year after year.
