Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that can develop in the bones or soft tissues such as muscles, fat, nerves and blood vessels.

Because it is uncommon and symptoms can vary, it is often misunderstood or diagnosed later than other cancers.

Common signs of sarcoma may include a lump or swelling that is growing or painful, unexplained bone pain (especially at night), reduced movement in a limb or persistent discomfort that doesn’t improve over time.

While these symptoms can be caused by many less serious conditions, it’s always important to get them checked by a GP if they persist.

Early diagnosis is vital. When sarcoma is found sooner, treatment options are often more effective and outcomes can be significantly improved.

Raising awareness helps ensure more people recognise symptoms early and seek medical advice without delay. 💛

Cervical Screening: what to expect & easing common worries 🎗️

A cervical screening (smear test) is a quick procedure that checks the health of your cervix and helps prevent cervical cancer by detecting early changes.

It’s usually carried out by a nurse and takes just a few minutes in a private, clinical setting. 🌿

During the appointment, you’ll be asked to undress from the waist down and lie comfortably on a couch. A small instrument called a speculum is gently inserted, so a soft brush can collect a small sample of cells from the cervix.

It can feel a little uncomfortable for some, but it should not be painful, and you can ask to pause or stop at any time.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous, but remember, you are in control throughout, and the test is designed to protect your health, not harm it.

Results are usually sent within a few weeks, and most people receive a normal result. Attending screening is one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer through early detection. 💛
