Our story with Lancaster’s wellbeing community began when Annie took on The River Room in 2021. The River Room had already been a much-loved space since 2016 and becoming its new guardians was both a privilege and an adventure. Over the past few years, we’ve nurtured it into a thriving home for yoga, pilates, movement and meditation. A place where community is at the heart of everything. As that community grew, so did our dream. We wanted to bring what had been cultivated by the river into the centre of the city to create a second home for yoga and wellbeing that was accessible to even more people. That vision became SOMA. The name SOMA is greek and translates as “the body living in its wholeness” and that’s the essence of this space. Like The River Room, SOMA is more than just a studio. It’s a sanctuary for presence and connection. A place where movement is not only physical but also becomes a grounding and deeply human practice. From the banks of the River Lune to the heart of Lancaster city, our journey has been one of creativity, care and community. And whether you step into The River Room or SOMA, our hope is that you feel it: a sense of calm, beauty and belonging.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOMA 🎉🥳🎈

Thank you to everyone who came today to celebrate SOMA (didn’t manage to capture you all but I took some photos!). It was so lovely to move together and connect on this special day.

It’s been one hell of a journey for me and Paul. When we opened SOMA we had no idea what this year would bring. We’ve had our fair share of stress and worry over this past year but it’s been seriously out weighed by the joy of what SOMA is. Because it is a joy. A joy to know you, to be part of your journey and to be in this with you.

Community is everything to us. Creating a space where there’s classes for everyone. A Space where someone genuinely cares how your day was and a space where you can take a breather from whatever life is throwing at you. That’s SOMA. So thankyou from the bottom of my heart for being here.

Here’s to the next year together. I can’t wait!

Let’s break down the yoga sessions at SOMA starting with the stronger practices!

We have a huge variety of classes that we need at different times in our lives, seasons and weeks! Sometimes a stronger, fluid paced yoga practice is exactly what your body needs.

Here’s a break down of the classes. Ultimately, it’s down to preference so do just give each class a try and see how it lands! That’s why the 21day intro offer is a perfect membership to start with. Unlimited classes for 21days.

We are so excited to be now offering a monthly Restorative practice!

These sessions are with me 🥳 (Annie ) and when I say it’s one of my favourite practices to teach, I mean it.

But what is it?

Restorative yoga is a style of practice where you hold poses for an extended period of time. The postures are fully supported by props, like really really supported by props. This helps the body to truly settle into the postures which is where the magic happens.

The body starts to settle, rest and then restore. It’s a practice that regulates your heart rate, blood circulation and is a reset for your nervous system. It helps you sleep better, helps with productivity and just supports you to get just a little more capacity by the time you leave.

It’s an utterly delicious practice and I would love to see you there!

The sessions are happening on the second Saturday of every month.

The next one is this weekend!

12th September / 2-3.30pm / included in your unlimited membership or £25 drop in.

We’ve created this post so that you can have a read about each pilates class and figure out which ones you’d like to try first. We have put a spice rating on BUT do not be fooled by it. Whichever session you go to you’ll feel it in those deep muscles. That’s the beauty of pilates and we love the strength and stability it gives you.

Join us for a beautiful seasonal reset 🍂

We love autumn at SOMA. Ok yes it’s our birthday month but September is also a really great time to build some rhythm and routine again after the summer.

I (like most of us) have really lost my weekly movement routine of getting to classes. So easily done when the kids are not in school/nursery, the weathers good and you’ve got holidays booked in. I’m taking some time to get myself back. Fancy joining me?

Every Sunday I like to plan which classes I can get to and I lock myself in by booking. I’m going to do this from now. Why don’t you give it a try!?
