This woman is the perfect example of hard work and determination
A huge inspiration to prove that exercise is for anyone, you just need to have the right mindset.
I want to be like this in my 80s.
What a remarkable lady 🤩🤩
At 70, Joan MacDonald struggled to climb a flight of stairs without becoming exhausted.
At 80, she lifts weights that many people half her age would find intimidating. ❤️
Ten years ago, Joan weighed nearly 200 pounds and was dealing with high blood pressure, acid reflux, high cholesterol, swollen ankles and declining mobility.
She had already undergone a knee replacement, and even ordinary movement was becoming harder.
Then her doctor told her that her blood pressure medication might need to be increased.
Her daughter Michelle, a fitness coach, gave her another option.
Try changing the way you live.
Joan agreed.
She renewed her gym membership, bought a food scale and joined a group of women learning about strength training and nutrition.
The beginning was anything but glamorous.
Her first workouts left her breathless. She had to learn unfamiliar exercises, understand nutrition and even become comfortable using technology to follow her daughter's programs.
But she kept showing up. ❤️
Fifteen minutes became longer workouts.
Light weights became heavier ones.
And slowly, the woman who struggled on the stairs began getting stronger.
Over time, Joan lost around 70 pounds, roughly 32 kilos. By 2018, she said she was no longer taking the medications that had once been part of her daily routine.
But the transformation didn't stop when the weight came off.
Joan kept training.
Today, at 80, she performs deadlifts, strength exercises and movements that would have seemed impossible to her at 70. đź’Ş
Her story has also grown far beyond the gym.
More than 2 million people now follow her online, many of them watching because Joan challenges one assumption again and again:
getting older doesn't automatically mean giving up strength.
She didn't transform in 30 days.
She didn't find a miracle shortcut.
She simply kept making better choices long enough for them to become a different life.
If you knew that the strongest version of yourself might still be ten years ahead of you, what would you start doing differently today?
