The power of a pause. I was watching a speaker recently and he said something he was hoping would get a laugh, and it didn't. So he just stood there on stage, until the audience caught up. It took about 45 seconds. Being in the audience it felt like a long time, so I can't imagine how long a 45 second pause felt to him. But it changed his speech from a good speech to an amazing speech. Those of us who had been day dreaming suddenly wanted to know what was going on. He then repeated the joke and instructed us that he was expecting a laugh. And boy did he get the laugh. He also established himself, in those 45 seconds as someone with presence confidence and authority. Not a bad result for just a pause.

I live with 3 teenagers so I know in one eye roll just how uncool they all think I am. Not a word said, but understanding established! (I don't agree with them but so far I haven't been able to convey just how cool I am).

A facial expressions can say more than a 1000 words. A little look, a gorgeous smile or a raised eyebrow, don't forget about these powerful communication tools you have ready and waiting to be deployed.

I remember the first few times I went on stage as a 'comedian'. I had never experienced my knees knocking before. Yes that is an actual thing, not just something you read about in scary kids books!

If you would like to learn some of the ways that have helped me get myself onto stage without melting with fear, put a 'yes' in the comments and I will send you our free guide. PS some of them are a little weird, but if it helps, it helps right?

Fear of public speaking is curious and it's not always obvious what the fear is. Sometimes its having everyone in the room looking at You, Yes YOU. How do we move from fearing this to loving it? Getting used to it is a good place to start.

It’s easy to keep waiting until we feel ready.
But what if we went for it anyway?
Sometimes we do better than we expect.
Sometimes it doesn’t go quite how we hoped.
Either way, it beats staying stuck in preparation mode forever.

"🎤 5 events that secretly need a comedian 👇

1. The annual company 'strategy day' (aka nap time).
2. Networking breakfasts before 9am (no one’s awake anyway).
3. Weddings where Uncle Dave insists on 'a quick song.'
4. Awards nights that drag longer than the Oscars.
5. Conferences with back-to-back PowerPoints.

Life’s too short for boring events. Book a comedian instead.

📌 DM me if you want to add comedy to your next event."

Could your team do with a good laugh? We all know how good it feels to have a laugh .. and when you make other people laugh, that feels pretty good too!

If your team could do with a boost, Comedy Team Building will get them laughing together.
