First time back deadlifting in nearly 6 months

Upon realising any deadlifting was exacerbating my hamstring recovery, I knocked it on the head. Today was my first session back conventional deadlifting, felt pretty good so hopefully this will continue.

Luckily whilst I was waiting between sets I could stay warm with the recently developed ibex performance sweatshirt.

Coming to you in a range of colours:

Black, bottle green, burgundy, French navy, heather grey, navy blue, red and royal blue

Yours for only £25

Putting an order in next Friday (31/10), so message with sizing and colour.

Also an opportunity for anyone that wants the Ukraine shirts or others. Give me a shout!

LEAVE NO TRACE

Still cannot comprehend the volume of rubbish we found on the summit of Ben Nevis.

Luckily this didn't detract from our very soggy mountaineering weekend in Scotland with

36 hours door to door from Leeds we managed to sprint up Curved Ridge and a walk in to the CIC on Saturday. Tower ridge and home on Sunday. Two amazing routes that have been on my list for a while. Maybe I'll go back and do them with visibility next time. May the drying commence.

Happy Mountain Monday

The last 2 days have been mostly brain fog. So Wednesday is this week's Monday.

UNEXPECTED ADVENTURES 2

A few years ago I posted some book recommendations that I'd stumbled across. All were written by women or chronicling women in sport. Many books later, I have some more!

A Light Through The Cracks: I had read parts of Beth's story in The Push but her account adds depth to the conversation on relationships and the PTSD they experienced.

A Woman In Arabia: Often referred to as the female Lawrence of Arabia. A more apps title for TE Lawrence should be the male Gertrude Bell. An Extraordinary life under publicised.

A Woman Of No Importance: A tough but rewarding read on Virginia Hall's time in occupied France running French resistance networks during WW2 and her work afterwards for OSS.

Take The Lead: The first account of a modern comp climber I have read. Seeing the pressures placed the upon these young athletes in the emerging sport of climbing was eye opening. As I continue to learn and appreciate body composition pressures from a female perspective this gave me lots to think on.

All have been super interesting and inspiring. I have an incredibly nerdy two-page Google doc with all my recommendations if anyone is interested.

Equally, if you have any recommendations please comment below.

Happy Mountain... Wednesday

My final "Winter" Trip of the year. Sadly winter conditions in Scotland were looking thin to say the least. A dynamic pivot later and we found ourselves in North Wales.

Three lovely days and one wash out is still pretty good for March. Multi-pitch climbing with some vitamin G to finish off each day. Worse days have been had.
Didn't lose his mind with me either.

📷: Pitch 2 on Tennis shoe
-Walking away from an incredibly wet table direct
-Definitely not stopping on the penultimate pitch for a lunch break
-Basking in what appears to be sunshine?!
-Topped out on the hidden gem Bramble Buttress

козел

I mostly stick to training, adventures and a bit of humour on this page, whilst keeping my non training views to myself.

However as a former soldier and someone with friends who have worked extensively with Ukraninans on Op Orbital and Interflex, Ukraine has been important to me for a long time.

To contribute in some small way I am printing козел (IBEX) t-shirts in Ukraines colours and with the Tryzub (Trident of Ukraine). All profits will go to Unite with Ukraine.

Non technical T-shirts £20
Technical T-shirts £22.5

Happy Mountain Monday!

With the start of spring feeling near I thought a throwback to some colder temperatures was in order.

Finally sat down for a photo dump after two back to back mini trips.

Cogne and Ecrin with and hunting for Ice in awe-inspiring surroundings.

Followed by Scottish Mountaineering with .munro2403 and .

Don't worry, plenty of spam in reserve. Thanks to all for making the week amazing.

DON'T BE PRECIOUS

The shine didn't last long 😅. Sadly what happens when you have inconsistently consolidated snow.

New axe and poles broken in! A great two early season days in Scotland to kickstart the winter. Feeling fit but definitely room for improvement.

Very late Mountain Monday this week.

January be January

I'm hoping for some more traditional mountain photos soon, for now enjoy me struggling on "there we are then Ein-stein" (D5+). Every time I go dry tooling I've reminded how hard it is.

Onwards to more snowy mountains!

What are your adventures goals for this year?

Athlete Stories: Will

I’ve known Will since uni and we’ve gone on many ill conceived adventures in the following years.

Continuing that spirit he was the winner…and solo entrant to a very wet Lanzarote 10k

“Determination to do some form of phys where I can has come from working with ibexperformance over a few years. No there's no photoshopped before and after photos (neither are pretty) but there is an appreciation for Paddy's time and effort to try and keep me on track. Often at distance whilst the Army moves me between bases where the fitness facilities are “varying” to say the least

..

So 10k done. New PB achieved. As Paddy says: you're not competing with anyone but yourself, your goals, your yesterday."

Great work Will! Showing up and putting the effort in is the biggest predictor of success. Progress is rarely linear.
