Everyone seems to be talking about ADHD right now.
The diagnosis rates.
The waiting lists.
The medication.
But what if we're missing the most important part of the conversation?
The people behind the statistics.
My latest blog explores ADHD, invisible disabilities, late diagnosis, grief, and why understanding yourself is often just the beginning of the journey.

What if you are not failing?
What if you are tired because you have been carrying too much for too long?
So many neurodivergent adults spend years pushing through, masking, holding everything together, and trying to look okay from the outside.
Then when the overwhelm hits, it can feel like personal failure.
But sometimes the problem is not you.
Sometimes it is the weight you have been holding.
You do not need to rebuild everything overnight.
You are allowed to slow down, understand what is happening, and find support that actually fits the way your brain works.

You do not have to rebuild everything at once.
You do not have to suddenly have the perfect routine, the perfect plan, the perfect mindset, or the perfect next step.
Sometimes rebuilding starts much smaller than that.
Noticing what is not working.
Letting yourself pause.
Choosing one thing that feels more manageable.
Making one small change that supports your capacity.
Learning to trust yourself again, slowly.
You are allowed to rebuild gently.
You are allowed to go at your own pace.
Small steps still count.

This is my lovely supervisor, Jill. ❤️
If you’ve been around the counselling world for a while, there’s a good chance you’ll have come across Jill’s work. She is knowledgeable, honest, supportive, and one of those people who isn’t afraid to say things as they are while still being incredibly compassionate.
Jill doesn’t often have supervision spaces available, so if you’re a counsellor looking for a supervisor and you’ve been thinking about reaching out, now might be a good time to do it.
Finding the right supervisor can make such a difference to your confidence, development, and wellbeing as a practitioner, and I feel very fortunate to have Jill in my corner.
You can find details in her post below.
Just shouting out about this database. Actually Autistic (themselves) Therapists. UK.
I list this database anyway but thought I'd highlight it here. Link in comments.
As usual, do your own research. Be fussy. Try them out (some offer a free introduction).
Whilst I'm here 😂. I am taking on 2 or 3 new Supervisees. Get in touch if interested. Link also in comments.
I am always honest with Clients and Supervisees, that I take regular time off. I may also need to take a couple of weeks off short notice at some point. It can't be helped but pre-warning everyone feels important.
Anyhoodle, hope everyone is coping with the UK heatwave. Heat dysregulates me, I'm bearing up!

Boundaries are not about pushing people away.
They are about noticing what you have capacity for.
They are about being honest with yourself.
They are about protecting your peace, your energy, and your ability to keep showing up in ways that feel sustainable.
A boundary can be quiet.
It can be kind.
It can be simple.
It can sound like:
“I can’t do that today.”
“I need some time to think.”
“I’m not able to take that on.”
“That doesn’t work for me right now.”
Boundaries do not make you difficult.
They help you stop abandoning yourself.

People-pleasing can be confusing.
Because from the outside, it can look like being helpful, kind, easy-going, thoughtful, or reliable.
But inside, it can feel like abandoning yourself.
Saying yes when you mean no.
Over-explaining so nobody is upset.
Taking responsibility for other people’s feelings.
Ignoring your own capacity because someone else needs something.
For many people, especially those who have spent years masking, people-pleasing can become a way of staying safe.
But you are allowed to be kind without disappearing.
You are allowed to care about people and still have limits.
