Today's project... A BMS modification of a larger scale. So I purchased this BMS, it's a 21S 100A BMS, and it's huge! Definitely capable of much more than 100A. Plus the 100A version is £35 and the 200A version is So let's modify it to handle 250A+.

So we first add a bunch of shunt resistors, 16 in total, to add to the already 24. So we can calculate how much we will increase this. I've added enough 5 mohm resistors that will add around 160A.

Then we fill all the missing MOSFETs. This adds the total MOSFETs to 38. This should easily handle 250A.

Yet another battery build.

This is a 48V 22.4Ah pack made with LG Chem MH1 cells. We have a total of 91 cells in 13S7P configuration.

When I build any battery I isolate all the nickel strips with silicone so they cannot be shorted. With each block of nickel strips I will double up on nickel on the longest strips, this causes less resistance in the nickel and makes the current flow easier, so causing less heat and longer life.

The pack will be put into a Polly DP-9 case, with a QC3.0 usb port and 2 standard low power USB ports.

The pack will use a full programmable 80A(150A) ANT BMS.

Here is an example of a battery built by yours truly.

It's built using LG Chem MH1 cells in a 14S8P configuration, so it's 52v 25.6Ah pack. It utilizes an 40A(80A) ANT BMS. There are multiple 6.5mm gold plated bullet connectors for easy replacement/removal of the BMS, and for safety aswell! If the external power leads get caught and ripped out accidentally, these connections will come apart without ripping everything out.

The customer requested a pack that can withstand off road usage, so I used additional hot glue to secure all wires and create a protective layer on smaller wires. This pack was as solid as a brick! And with the temp sensors of the ANT BMS it cannot overheat.

The customer also requested multiple output power sources, a 12v for lights etc and at least 2 USB ports for charging mobiles etc. So I built a harness usimg a high power 10A step down converter to achieve a stable 12v 10A output. This is then stepped own again to supply power to 2 USB ports. And as a bonus I included a QuickCharge3.0 USB port aswell.

The battery was then assembled with fibreglass boards and electrically insulated plastic. This is followed by a coloured vinyl wrap. And all sealed using silicone to ensure watertightness.
