Garforth Parish Church Cricket Club

The 1st Team’s winning run continued on Saturday with a 199-run victory over Kelfield. Opting to bat first, Jamie Stockton continued his fine form with a superb 86. Bramley (31), Dorgan (29), and Abdul Sarwary’s quickfire 54 from just 24 balls helped the Parish post a strong 249/7 from our 40 overs.

It was an excellent performance with the ball as we bowled Kelfield out for 50 in the 19th over. Lewis Doel took 3 wickets, while Brayson, Bedford, and Sarwary claimed 2 each.

POTM for the 1st Team was Abdul Sarwary for his all-round performance, scoring 54 and taking 2/4 from his 3 overs. Abdul is sponsored by Caroline Burgess

It was a close one for the 2nd Team as they made their second trip to Hundhill Hall this season. Batting first, we posted 222/8 from our 40 overs. A fine red-inker from Dave Steel (70*) was supported by great knocks from Jack Gregory (37), Andy Stoddart (36), and Sam Groves (35).

With the ball, wickets came from Lawson (2), Dave Steel (1), and Andrew Stoddart (1), but unfortunately Hundhill managed to get over the line to win by 6 wickets.

POTM for the 2nd Team was Dave Steel for his unbeaten 70 and a wicket in defence. Dave is sponsored by Neil Robinson

4 games in 4 days and it was 4 wins across the Parish teams over the Bank Holiday weekend and the 1st Round of the Cup on Tuesday!

On Saturday, our 1st Team made the short trip to South Milford. Losing the toss and bowling first, we bowled Milford out for 108, with Abdul Sarwary the pick of the bowlers taking 5 wickets. Abdul also starred with the bat, smashing 44 from 22 balls, while Jamie Stockton (37*) and Alex Bramley (22*) saw us over the line by 9 wickets in the 13th over.

Also on Saturday, our 2nd Team hosted Thorpe Willoughby at Green Lane. Losing the toss and batting, Luke Walker top-scored with 71, and with contributions throughout the order we posted 182 all out. Parish’s youngest ever opening bowling duo, Oli Stockton (2/8) and Louis Walker (2/8), got us off to a perfect start with wickets in their first overs. On debut, Lottie Laycock then picked up 4 wickets in 2 overs as Thorpe were bowled out for just 33.

A scorching Bank Holiday Monday saw the 1st Team travel to Eastrington. Losing the toss, we were invited to field first. A brilliant bowling display saw Eastrington bowled out for 99, with Lewis Doel taking 4 wickets and 2 a piece for Brayson, Bedford, and Sarwary. A batting collapse made for a nervy finish, but Steve Bedford’s late 6 sealed the win, with James Allinson top-scoring with 44.

Finally, on Tuesday we got our Wilberfoss T20 Cup campaign underway against South Milford. The visitors finished on 151/4 from their 20 overs, with Will Brayson taking 2/21. Jamie Stockton’s classy 65 put us in a strong position, but after a slight collapse it came down to the final ball, where Dave Steel (5*) and Will Brayson (4*) scrambled the winning single to send us into Round 2!
