🏏 WEEKEND ROUND-UP 🏏

🌧️ 1s – Frustration in the Rain

The 1s were frustrated by 3rd place Old Leo’s on Saturday in a rain-affected game. Putting the opposition in looked to be paying off when we had them at 45/4. But 80 from their number 6 frustrated the bowlers and their 221 looked a good score.

⭐ Highlight was a first 1st team five-fer from Tobias, it won’t be the last!

68 from the ever-consistent Saurav wasn’t enough as we fell short on 179.

🏏 2s – A Match Won by the Toss!

The 2s match at Bilton was just as badly affected by the bad weather. Bilton won the toss and of course put us in.

It was hard work but again Tom P stood tall, carrying his bat and scoring 75 not out, over half the team’s total. 👏

As always, DLS favoured the team batting 2nd, leaving them to score only 101, which they did comfortably.

🪙 A match won by the toss!

🔥 DC1s – Still in the Fight!

The DC1s were the only victorious team on the day. 🏆

Martin won the toss and had one of his great days. Opening the bowling, he skittled the Yeadon top order, grabbing 6 wickets for only 29 runs from his 11 overs. 🎯🔥

Chasing 141 for victory, we were wobbling at 44/3 in difficult conditions.

But G with 42 not out and Deepak with 72 not out from 52 balls made light work of it, guiding us home. 💪🏏

🏆 We’re still in the fight for the league trophy.

🌧️ DC2s – Beating the Rain

The DC2s had a thankless task against title contenders TPE.

They teed off trying to beat the rain. It was a bridge too far chasing, but another very encouraging unbeaten knock from Harry Slater was the highlight. 👏

☔ Dev 11 – No Result

On Sunday, the Dev 11 took on Crickedemia on a rainy afternoon.

A no-result match, but Tobias continued his good form with 50 retired. 👏🏏

😬 AW 3s – A Rare Off Day

And a rare off day on Monday for the AW 3s, who were beaten convincingly by Burley.

Less said the better… 😬

➡️ Onto next week as they bid to win the title! 🏆

🏏 COME ON RODLEY! 🖤🤍

🏏 2 runs away from 4 out of 4! 🤬

We were so unlucky not to win all 4 Saturday games for the 1st time in the club’s history this week. The DC1s lost by 1 run with a ‘debatable’ lbw decision stopping us. More of that later… 👀

🏏 THE 1s — ANOTHER BIG WIN 🔥

The 1s continued their excellent form with a convincing win away at Horsforth.

Batting first we posted a reasonable 192 for 9 recovering from 20/3. A 64 partnership between Saurav and Numan rebuilt the innings and a 17 ball 33 from Dom got us to a defendable total.

3 early wickets again from Alex got us off to a great start before Waqy did his thing taking 5 for 18 and making the league honours board.

The win takes us to 6th place only 26 points away from 3rd! 🚀

🏏 THE 2s — SAFELY MOVING UP 👊

No dramas for the 2s as they beat Guiseley at home. The opposition posted 159 for 6 with Ravi taking 3 for 15 from a frugal 9 overs.

The form batter at the club ET did it again with a fine 61 ably supported by Flinn who scored an unbeaten 55.

The win takes the 2s 20 points clear of the relegation zone, the aim of staying up in our first season in division 2 within sight. 👀

💔 ONTO THE HEARTBREAKING EVENTS AT WEST BOWLING…

We had 7 wicket takers, Pritch the pick taking 3 for 18, as we restricted them to 170 on a difficult pitch.

We were in trouble at 14/3 but meaningful contributions from Henners, Deepak, Pritch and Jason got us going.

But at 142 for 9 the game looked lost.

But Charlie and Keegs took us within 1 run of their score when there was an appeal for LBW. Keegs felt he hit the ball first but the umpire disagreed and on such small margins are matches (and titles?) decided.

We’re closing in on promotion but this body blow makes winning the league a lot more difficult.

To say Skipper Martin was despondent on Saturday night would be an understatement.

Cricket’s a cruel mistress at times… 😩

🚀 THE DC2s — MOMENTUM BUILDING!

In better news the DC2s recorded the 2nd win of their inaugural season with victory over M**f Field.

Massively helped by a returning Yassir ( who played with his son Zak) scoring 89 from only 61 balls.

A brilliant 48 from Noah (please don’t ask the club Chairman about running him out - word has it he’s left the country in disgust at himself! 😂) and a 76 run partnership between Harry S and the aforementioned disgraced Chairman took us to a commanding 261 for 8.

The bowling was great:

🎯 Harry S 2 for 11
🎯 Yayha 2 for 18
🎯 Matty B 3 for 46

But the fielding was exceptional with Zak behind the stumps and Safi at square leg both brilliant.

And Tom T will be carrying bruises this week from his stint at short leg, but his instinctive catch to get rid of Frank was off the scale. 👏

🔥 Momentum building.

🏆 DALES T20 FINALS DAY

Finally, we were obligated to fulfil a place in the Dales T20 finals day on Sunday despite missing loads of regulars.

Drawn against top of Div A side Interlink it was mission impossible. But credit the lads for grasping the nettle.

Thankfully they kindly put us into bat when winning the toss 😅.

Double figure knocks from G (who top scored with 28) Adam and Leo got us to a respectable 89 for 7.

And they knocked them off.

Obligation fulfilled. 🫡

🏏 3 OUT OF 4…

So close to that historic clean sweep.

2 runs. 1 LBW. 1 heartbreak. 🤬

But plenty of positives to take from another cracking weekend of cricket. 👏
