The Leeds District Cup provided the 6th competitive game for our new team. The Championship squad made the away trip to Wortley that included Twelve U19 players.
We made a good start to the game.
Wortley set out to be very physical but we adapted to this & coped well. Huge credit to the lads for the way they handle this approach.
We continued to cause our opponents problems in the early stages of the game & went ahead through a nice set piece routine.
Shortly after going ahead; We conceded through a set piece scenario. A soft one from our perspective (as we did some work on this during the warm up)

A great response to conceding led to us dominating the first half, creating loads of opportunities but somehow not managing to convert at least one chance to put us ahead. Mamadou probably having the best chance but he put the ball too close to the GK from about 7 yards out.

1-1 at HT. Praise for the performance.
Review of the goal conceded. acknowledged we should be ahead or out of sight based on the amount of good chances created.

Second half
There was a bit of momentum shift where it was Wortley’s turn to put pressure on us getting onto more loose balls, direct freekicks, long throws & multiple corners.
To be fair to the group we defended well & showed we can cope/deal with set plays. We were also a threat going forward throughout the half & had a few good chances. There was a golden chance to make it 2-1. Lamek put Mamadou through in the box. he was 1 on 1 with the GK but he hit the GK with his shot.

As we prepared for pens - Wortley scored in the last minute & it was a well taken goal tbf.
A last minute goal is always a tough one to take. Especially in this scenario as it’s a game where we feel we should have scored more than our opponents.

Overall another good performance from the group with some pleasing individual performances. Plenty of positives to build on with this group.

A mountain to climb as Ammers bow out of the cup.

When you give a side of Carlton’s quality a 3–0 head start, you’re always going to face an uphill battle.

Credit where it’s due to Carlton. They came with a clear game plan, knew exactly how they wanted to play, and executed it well.

From our perspective, it’s another frustrating afternoon. We continue to concede avoidable goals at crucial moments, and if we’re serious about challenging for honours this season, that simply has to improve.

At 3–0 down, the lads showed character and responded. For the following 70 minutes, it was largely one-way traffic as we took control, created chances and pushed Carlton all the way.

On another day, we could and probably should have at least taken the game level, but ultimately we’ve paid the price for giving ourselves far too much to do.

The YAL Championship squad are back in action as they travel to face Wortley FC in the Leeds FA District Cup – Last 16!

Wortley compete in the West Yorkshire Alliance Division 1 and have lost just one league game this season, making this a tough test for the lads as they look to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

A big challenge awaits, and the squad will be looking to rise to the occasion!

The Ammers are back in action tomorrow as Yorkshire Ammers SU FC travel to take on Carlton Athletic.

Two points dropped at West Riding County FA as missed chances prove costly.

After a slow opening 10 minutes, we took control of the game, playing some excellent football and creating enough chances to be four or five goals ahead at the break.

Salam gave us a deserved lead, but we failed to build on it.

The second half saw us lose control of midfield, drop deeper and invite unnecessary pressure. Despite PE United not registering a shot on target until the 75th minute, they eventually found an equaliser.

Credit to PE United for battling until the end.

A frustrating result given our dominance for large periods, but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal and manage games better when ahead.

Special mention to Simi for another excellent midfield performance.

Attention now turns to Saturday’s quarter-final against Carlton, where we’ll be looking for a response.
