Some other exiting things have been going on this week too… a new 4wd car has arrived for Tommy, he’s been hounding me for a Schumacher PB to go with his LD3 so as he’s done so well at school and racing we decided to work a bit harder and buy him one.
Today at RHR Tommy was offered bodyshell painting sponsorship off my old mate Craig Mawson of C Star paint to paint him 2 body’s for the start of every season 🤩
Then later in the day Uncle Shaun Lomax of Evolution works has promised Tommy an elceram speedo for his new PB! Lucky little man. Thanks guys ❤️

Another weekend, another new track to try, today we went to the amazing Robin Hood Raceway for the festival of speed day 1, we ran 4wd to try and gain some more experience and get a setup sorted, a small field of 6 heats made for a very leisurely day, Tommy was put in a heat that was blessed with huge Tallent.. Ben Smith, Tommy Hall, Hudson Knight….. he was super excited to be on the rostrum with these guys 🤩 qualifying went ok with 2 decent runs to count lining him up B2, the final was by far the best race Tommy has driven on Astro so far, he crossed the line 2nd 0.03 s off the lead, that was about the gap for the whole 6 minute final, I was well impressed 👍 next up we go back to BMR for the National next Sunday and also to pick up the top F5 award from the last 4wd National which was mistakenly given to someone else 🥴

Another 1st this weekend for Tommy, 1st ever BRCA National championship round, this was a last minute decision to enter round 1 of the nationals at the amazing Potteries rc club near stoke on Trent. We could only get a place in 4wd on the Sunday so we had a Dad and lad sleep over in the van on Saturday night. Tommy had a blast with his mates on Saturday evening, which ended up being quite a late night 🥴 on to the racing, no expectations, no pressure, just enjoy it! And that’s what he did! With an 81 and 89 in round to count out of the 112 entries I was over the moon with him, he was even asked to do an interview for the live stream, which he loved! he qualified 6J main and finished 6th after running 3rd for a while, a last lap battle didn’t go Tommys way but that’s how it goes! We go again next week having gained more experience and more valuable track time.
Thanks again to everyone that helps and supports Tommy.

First ever regional weekend done and dusted, first time racing on Astro and first time racing a ‘modern’ 4wd car, what a great weekend we’ve had, with great people. we even took the girls with us this weekend 🤪
2wd Saturday 116 drivers from all over the country, Tommy managed a couple of consistent runs to line him up 5th on the grid in the H final, the goal was not to be in the bottom final (L) final, goal achieved 😊 he then drove a fantastic smooth final and took the win. Great 1st day 👌 BBQ and beer time while the kids all played. Great night had by all! 🍺
4wd Sunday 61 drivers today, Tommy was in heat 1 which was interesting at times 🥴 same goal again, not to be in the bottom final (F) he had 1 decent round (29) and 3 incident plagued rounds which we had to use a (39) in round 4, however Tommy was over the moon to line up D9, he drove a great clean final to finish 6th. Then to top off the weekend he got a medal for 3rd in the U13’s. Happy little man 🤩. Looking forward to getting back out again for some more Astro practice.
Big thanks again to all that help and support Tommy.

2026 Vintage Model Racing International Phil Booth memorial at Silverstone Rcmcc in the bag, and what a weekend we had! I had entered Tommy in 3 classes, clearly wasn’t thinking when I booked him in 🥴 Friday was a busy day getting the cars set up to Tommys liking, all sorted just before kick out time! Back to the hotel for much needed drink! Saturday 2wd day, with clean runs and great consistency Tommy lined up C 6 with my Schumacher cougar classic in the 89-93 class after a couple of top 20 runs, unfortunately a lap 1 incident in the final saw a front shock pop off, with a quick fix Tommy got his head down and battled back to P6. In the pre 88 class he raced his beloved Kyosho Europe Ultima JJ, I’ve never seen him drive so clean and mature and this resulted in a 3 and 5 in round to put him Q6 for his first big A final, with no expectations and just happy to be in the A main it was just another race, although a longer one at 7 minutes, as the final buzzer went Tommy crossed the line in an amazing 4th place missing the podium by 0.7 of a second, happy little man and an even happier Dad! McDonalds was promised for tea and back to the hotel for an early night after a long hard day.
Sunday 4wd day, class pre 88. having only driven the Optima mid at Worksop at the Modelsport vintage event in February and a couple of batteries of practice on Friday today was about learning to drive 4wd, which is what the boy did! After an issue in heat 1 then the servo saver locking on after the buzzer went on the last lap in heat 2 the day wasn’t really turning out very much fun, however the lap times were good so if we could get the car to behave the pace was there! What followed was just what we needed 😊 2 good clean runs of a 5 and 3 in round and another A main start! 6th again. I was absolutely over the moon with my boy 👍 however the best was still to come, after been binned on the 1st lap and dropping to last he got his head down and pulled his way through to 3rd there was good clean over takes pressure from some very experienced drivers and a lot of shouting from the crowd, he took the lot and the 3rd place! and the top junior award. all in all a bloody great weekend of vintage racing. On to outdoors now with lots to learn having never raced on Astro we go to Bingham next weekend for his 1st regional. Big mountains to climb now!
Tommy and I would thank to thank a few people who have helped this weekend and also to his sponsors.

We have been doing a bit of club racing recently at MB raceway on the EOS carpet on a Wednesday nights and then doing York on a Saturday on the good old school slippy floor. Tommys driving is improving week by week resulting in regular A finals at York.
This last Wednesday was 1st time out at MB with the new Xray 26c, we missed round 1 due to the car not been ready so round 2 was the 1st race, which resulted Tommys first ever 19 lap run on this lay out and 11th in round 👊🏻 round 3 started super strong but unfortunately the traffic wasn’t kind when it came to lapping and cost Tommy a lot of time so a low score in this round would see Tommy line up C final pole, he led from lights to flag smashing his pb by nearly a lap! Safe to say the Xray was a hit! Thank you Andy Shillito, Rhys Trewartha for your help with car 👍

We took a trip down to to Wheelspin Raceway in Cannock this weekend for the Grand Prix what a fantastic venue Wheelspin have 👌 Tommy was racing my vintage Schumacher cougar classic for the 1st time, he took to it really well. He had a 5 minute seeded practice run which seeded him 17th overall out of the 48 runners in the 2wd vintage class, he had a belter in round 1 winning his heat and going 10th overall in round, the rest of qualifying was a disaster, we found an old friend called grip roll in round 2 and a breakage in round 3 killed our hopes of where we thought we could have been, Tommy lined up on pole for the 3 legged C main, he went on to win both leg 1 and leg 2 which gave him the overall win, (his winning times were equal to the mid A final times) all in all the day didn’t end up too bad. Most importantly we had a great time away making memories.

The 2wd 2025 VMR jingle bell cup at Bury is done, it’s been a long day! Out at 6.20am and home at 7.45pm 🥴 Tommy’s had a great day and driven bloody brilliantly! High point of an 8th in round in round 2. He lined up B4 and finished B5 after a scrappy final. All in all a really good positive day 🏆

So…. The karting is now over, Tommy has grown too much to be competitive in the Honda cadet class and is too young to race in junior prokarts so he made the decision to head back to RC racing full time. We’ve done 4 or 5 meetings now at York and a couple at MB raceway since starting back, the boys pace is picking up again and he is learning new techniques, we head to Bury this coming weekend for the VMR racing vintage national event, fingers crossed for decent day! Report to follow 👍

Last weekend we dug the old kart out and headed to Woodthorpe kart club for Tommys first race meeting in 18 months, Grandad had bought a new blue tag engine to enable Tommy to race, practice day was a nightmare for me chasing set up and gearing, Tommy had grown and gained a lot of weight since we last raced and tipped the scales at 115kg in the kart 🥴 10kg over the class weight 😩 it was a tough weekend of learning to race smooth and finding consistency, getting dicked off the line in every heat didn’t help due to the weight disadvantage, R200 class is where we will be heading in the coming months where he will fit in better, he got within 6/10 of the fastest lap in the class but proved he can be consistent and smooth, work to do and things to learn again 🧐 in general a great weekend and great to see our old karting pals 😊👍🍺
