So as we were about to leave the track on Saturday evening Tommy was approached by our very own double national champion and mid east regional champion Ben Smith RC carrying his newly earned 2wd mid east regional Championship winning trophy, Ben quietly and softly told Tommy that he had been watching his progress this year and that he was very impressed with how he has improved as a driver and how his confidence had grown, he then passed Tommy his signed Trophy and told Tommy to put it in a safe place and that one day if Tommy carries on improving and believing……he would lift the same trophy, Ben you don’t realise how much this meant to us, what a truly fantastic young man you are, a true credit to team Schumacher and your family Simon Smith. I’ll admit my eyes went a little moist for a few moments 🤣

Last weekend we headed east to Hull to the Thearne Off-Road Model Car Club for the 5th and final round of the BRCA ME-OR.co.uk, we went to have a look at the track before we went to our hotel, it was big and bumpy! Proper off road!
Saturday 2wd, running our trusty Schumacher LD3 with ABM 10.5 power Tommy set about his day and his goal…. He wanted his F3 licence grade, a tall order in my eyes in his 1st season of outdoor racing in such a competitive region, the boy drove brilliantly all day, he qualified D6 bettering his previous best at RHR of D8, a cautious start to stay out of trouble didn’t work, he was bundled out at turn 2 and was plum last and a long way behind 😩 a mature comeback drive got him back up to 6th, every point counts! At the end of the day the points were counted up by our league BRCA chiefs and a provincial list was made, Tommy had achieved his goal of achieving his F3 licence at his 1st attempt. To say I’m proud of how he went about this day is an understatement. 4wd report next but before that someone made Tommys day very special just before we were leaving to go back to the hotel….. next post incoming 👍.

Big thanks to all those that help and support Tommy.

1st day at high school as a year 7 looking smart, last regional at Hull coming up this weekend 🤞🤞

Not done a post for a while as we’ve not really raced much over the summer, we started with a regional at A1 raceway which ended in us coming home after round 4 of qualifying due to Tommy been poorly, we then missed the 4wd the following day, we then did a Wednesday night club meet at NDOR with 2wd which Tommy TQ’d and won the A final, next up was Bury 4wd National, an early start and lovely weather, the racing never worked out for Tommy, trying too hard and making so many mistakes, we had a break for a couple of weeks before we thought we would check out the track at Hull in preparation for the last Regional round there, it was a challenging track and surface, there was a definite local advantage here, Tommy got his head around it towards the end of the day and I think I had the car somewhere near, he qualified B5 then proceeded to take a commanding win, another couple of weeks off then to the final round of the BRCA 1:10th Off Road Nationals at the new Batley buggy club track, this was definitely Tommys best national, a strong 117 entry and our usual goal of top 100, he managed a 90/86/82/ and a 31! aided by the weather gods 🥴 he sat 5th right up until the last 3 heats when the track dried up, still it was a clean fast run that he did which we haven’t seen for a while! He qualified 72nd and lined up H2, he drove fantastically despite been loaded on lap 1 🥴and proved he could live with the grid of F2 drivers even getting back up to 4th place from last before being loaded again 🥴, he ended up 9th but only a couple of seconds off the pack, we were both happy with that, he then picked up 3rd in the under 13’s class for the 2nd time this year, ending the year 4th overall u13, 3rd overall F5 and 98th overall in the 4wd standings some year for his 1st year of outdoor racing, he’d not seen an Astro track before the end of April this year! Next up is our final regional at Hull this coming weekend, fingers crossed we have a good en and some good weather 🤞

Thank you as always to those who help and support Tommy

It’s taken me a few days to get my head round doing a race report for Tommys last event, the BRCA Junior and Veterans Nationals, a National event run at the fantastic NDOR THE HOME OF 1/8 AND 1/10 OFF ROAD, big thanks to Nick,Mike and there team for providing a great facility and 2 awesome tracks, also to Rick Greenwood and Nathan Ralls for the commentary. It had been a busy week for Tommy doing his transition days to high school so I had a tired grumpy little man to deal with 🤣2wd on Saturday started well with a 5 and then a 6 in round, a 3rd round bobble then another 5th in round 4 lined Tommy up 7th in the A final, the 3 leg finals just never happened for Tommy, a fifth in leg 1 was the best he got, the next 2 legs were hindered with crashes and poor driving from other drivers 😡, there was a definite sense of desperation from a couple of people, I’ll say no more other than it was very disappointing. 4wd on Sunday went pretty much the same, driving standards was a joke and nothing done about it. Tommy has had it hammered into him from day one that if you take someone out you wait and you apologise after the race. This never happened on several occasions from other drivers,We came away with double A finals which I was more than happy with. The rest we will leave behind us and move on to our next event.
