A big local fixture is coming up as we welcome Morley Town to Woodkirk.

Morley arrive in good form after an impressive five-goal win last weekend, while Woodkirk will also take plenty of confidence from a hard-fought 3–3 draw away at Berry Brow.

Both sides have started the season positively, which should make for a really competitive game.

Woodkirk U11 Oranges vs Horsforth Hunters

Great morning of football. Dusting off the cobwebs from summer - Woodkirk made a good start. Missed some early chances before taking the lead. Unfortunately that match sharpness wasn’t quite there yet to press the advantage and ultimately Horsforth came back into the game.

Special mention to new boy Jack playing his 1st league game.

Managers player of the match:- Alex. Alex went in goal for the final quarter and pulled off some excellent saves. He put a real shift in for the team.

Coaches player of the Match:- Jack. Jack played his 1st competitive game today and showed true Woodkirk spirit. He got stuck in and made some strong tackles.

Great game against local rivals for U11 Whites!

The team showed some excellent passing towards the end of the game with tons of effort - a few of the boys looked absolutely exhausted at the end which showed how much they put in!

🟠Ollie, who didn't stop running all game, and scored the pick of the goals, a rocket which came off the underside of the bar.
⚫Jenson, who also showed real commitment all game and managed to bag himself a couple of good goals as well.

Also like to welcome the two new players we have signed this year. Harry and Luke, both of whom had great first games and worked their socks off.

What a way to earn our first point of the season.

2–0 down at half-time, Woodkirk showed huge character to fight back and earn a 3–3 draw against a strong Berry Brow side containing several players from their higher-division first team.

“With everything thrown at us — traffic delays, two players having a bump on the way, big decisions going against us, a sin bin, a red card and being 2–0 down — plenty of teams would have folded.

But we didn’t!!!

The togetherness in this group is massive. Everyone kept battling and the lads off the bench made a real impact. There’s still plenty more to come from us football-wise, which is the exciting part.

“Yesterday was exactly what we’re about — working hard, battling for each other, never giving up and showing resilience.

At times when we played, they couldn’t handle us. Going down to 10 men twice showed the character in the group, and the lads coming off the bench changed the game.

Next week against Morley will be another tough one. We need that same attitude and desire, with a little more football and patience, and we’ll give ourselves a great chance of getting our first win.”

West End Terriers v Woodkirk Valley U9 Girls (friendly)

The West End Terriers are four leagues above Woodkirk and are a much more established team, but that didn’t stop our young Wolves from giving it their very best. There were some really good efforts from Woodkirk, with some excellent passages of play, but on the day West End Terriers proved too strong.

Woodkirk’s goal came from a great team effort, with Sophie doing enough to make sure the ball found the back of the net.

Maddie made a fantastic debut, showing excellent skills and producing some great play throughout the game. Levahna also made her debut and showed fantastic determination, confidence and class.

The whole team worked incredibly hard and, despite the result, they held their heads high at the final whistle.

🏆 Coaches' Girl of the Game: Harper
Harper never stopped running! She worked tirelessly and marking players.

⭐ Parents' Girl of the Game: Levahna
A brilliant debut from Levahna, who showed fantastic skills, made some great plays and also did really well during her spells in goal.

A tough test against a very strong side, but these games will only help the girls grow, learn and develop.

PAID COACHING OPPORTUNITY AT WOODKIRK!

We’re looking for a new coach to take the lead at our Soccer School for children aged 5–7.

For many of our youngest Wolves, Soccer School is their first experience of organised football. So we need someone who can make those early sessions fun, positive and engaging, helping children build confidence, learn new skills and, most importantly, develop a love for the game.

⚽ Age group: 5–7 years
🗓 When: Fridays, 5.30–6.30pm
📍 Where: Woodkirk Academy, Rein Road, WF3 1JQ
💷 This is a paid position

The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a DBS check, First Aid and Safeguarding Level 1 as a minimum before beginning coaching.

OUR U18 GIRLS ARE LOOKING FOR NEW WOLVES!

After a fantastic season that saw the team reach the 2026 Cup Final, our U18 Girls are looking to strengthen the pack for 2026/27.

We’re welcoming players at U17 and U18 who are looking for competitive football, a great team environment and the chance to play in Division 1 of the West Riding Girls Football League.
