πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ‰ U10s v Ossett Trinity Tigers πŸ‰πŸ’›πŸ–€

On Saturday, we welcomed Ossett Trinity Tigers U10s to Swillington after their busy weekend at Butlins' Rhinos Challenge festival. The two sides last met at our summer gala last year, so it was great to be back playing against each other once again.

The sun was shining in Swillington and with plenty of players available for both teams, we knew we were in for a great morning of rugby.

This time the coaches agreed on playing 2 games of 7/8 aside first, before finishing with a 9v9 match on the full pitch.

It was pleasing to hear much more communication on the pitch and to see more passing and offloads out of tackles.

Swillington continued to battle hard against another defensively strong team but struggled to break through and cross the white wash.

Despite not being rewarded with the tries, the Swillington boys can be pleased as there was plenty of good skills and some strong individual displays and leadership in the matches.

Thanks to Jonjo and the Tigers coaching team, and all the players for some great performances and entertaining games of rugby, all played in the spirit of the game.

Well done to all the kids who played - they were a credit to their respective clubs. Also a BIG shout out to all our certificate winners who were recognised for their great efforts.

This Saturday, we have a rare rugby free bank holiday weekend before we go again the following Saturday. We travel away to Sherburn Bears ARLFC, a team who we haven't played before.

So, Let's get ready to cheer on our boys again.

See you there! πŸ’›πŸ–€

πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ‰ U10s v Doncaster Toll Bar πŸ‰πŸ’›πŸ–€

On Saturday, our U10 boys were on the road and headed down the A1 as visitors at Doncaster Toll Bar ARLFC - a team we haven't played for 4 years!

We left behind a very rainy morning in Swillington, to be greeted in Doncaster with the sun shining. The boys were ready and looking forward to playing some rugby. Both teams had decent numbers and the coaches agreed to play one match of 9v9 with a few rolling subs, in 10min quarters.

Unlike the previous week, the Swillington boys got off to a cracking start and played some great rugby to work some quality tries.
However, Doncaster soon grew into the game from the second quarter as we started to lose some shape and a bit of our momentum with several changes needing to be made for injuries following some hard hits. Doncaster didn't need much more of an invite and started to show off their skills in attack and were rewarded with some tries.

Swillington continued to work hard against a strong and well organised Doncaster Toll Bar team.

A good effort from Swillington with some pleasing individual performances to be proud of. Line speed was better but one to work on more at training along with more purposeful running.

Thanks to Scott, and the Toll Bar coaching team, and all the players for hosting us.

Well done to all the kids who played, and a BIG shout out to all our certificate winners who were recognised for their great efforts.

Tomorrow we are at home as we welcome Ossett Trinity Tigers back, having met last time at our gala last summer.

Let's get behind them and cheer on our boys. See you there! πŸ’›πŸ–€

πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ‰ U10s v Batley ARLFC πŸ‰πŸ’›πŸ–€

On Saturday, our U10 boys were back at home as we welcomed Batley ARLFC to Swillington - a team we last played as U8s.

It was a glorious day for it and we were excited for the match ahead. Both teams were quite low on numbers so the coaches had agreed to play one match of 9v9 with a few rolling subs, for the 40mins.

Swillington were a little slow off the mark, but grew more and more into the game as time ticked on. They had to work hard together against a well drilled Batley team to get through their defence. There was some cracking rugby on display from both sides.

A much improved team performance overall, with some strong Swillington defence and some pleasing individual skills on display. Plenty to work on with line speed and running with purpose, but also plenty of positives to be proud of.

Thanks to Chris, Ryan and the coaching team, and all the Batley players. All the players are a credit to the clubs as the games were played in the right spirit.

Both sets of teams were refuelled with half time oranges 🍊 donated by Tesco - thank youπŸ‘

Well done to all the kids who played, and a BIG shout out to all our certificate winners who were recognised for their great efforts.

Tomorrow we are back on the road as we head down the A1 to play Doncaster Toll Bar ARLFC - a team we haven't played for 4 years!

Let's get behind them and cheer on our boys.

See you there!

The kids were also happy to receive some fruit after their session thanks to Tesco for providing it as part of our focus on healthy eating, as well as getting their new sticker charts.

A massive thank you to our sponsor Tong Park Cars Leeds for their continued support of our club and this group.

πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ‰ U10s v HULL WYKE & STANNINGLEY ARLFC πŸ‰πŸ’›πŸ–€

What a weekend of rugby for our U10s.

First up was some late night rugby when 8 of our Swillington U10 boys headed to The Onebore Stadium on Friday to take part in an evening festival of rugby at Castleford. Walking out onto the Tigers pitch before the main game, we played 2 strong teams from Hull Wyke Rugby League.

They breed them big in Hull, but that didn't stop our boys as they never gave up tackling hard and working together in both games. It was a tough couple of games, with a strong display of rugby from Wyke, but the effort throughout from Swillington could not be faulted and we watched on as very proud coaches.

After the festival, the U10s had the honour of being flag bearers for Castleford Tigers as the Super League players ran out onto the pitch ahead of their clash with Hull FC. An amazing evening of rugby making great memories together as a team.

It was then home, straight to bed and then back at it first thing Saturday morning as we welcomed Stanningley to Swillington for our 3rd league game of the season.
The temperatures were up, but our numbers were down, and there were also a few tired and bruised bodies from the night before, so we were pleased that Stanningley were able to lend a few players which meant the games worked and all the kids got to play some rugby.
It was pleasing to see some good team defence and great individual skills on display at times for Swillington against a strong squad from Stanningley.

As always, lots of positives to take away, but also plenty of things to improve and work on.
Thanks to Jordan and the coaching team, and all the Stanningley players.

Well done to all the kids who played, and a BIG shout out to all our certificate winners, especially Noah, who played in his first league game for Swillington. Great effort.

This coming Saturday, we are hosts again as we welcome Batley ARLFC U10s to our grounds - who we last played at U8s.

Let's get behind the boys. See you there!

We want to say a BIG thank you to Castleford Tigers Foundation for inviting us to take part in the rugby festival yesterday before the Castleford Tigers vs Hull FC Super League match last night.

We always love our trips there and it was great to see our Under 6s and Under 10s take part in the pre-match festival with some fun games of rugby and some amazing skills on display!

Not much rest of our kids, coaches, volunteers and parents as our 10s play today against Stanningley Rugby Club and our 6s against Ossett Trinity Tigers tomorrow.

πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ‰ U10s v Birstall Victoria ARLFC πŸ‰πŸ’›πŸ–€

On Saturday our U10s were on the road for our first away fixture of the season when we travelled along the M62 to another new team, Birstall Victoria, who welcomed us to their grounds.

Before the warm up got underway, the U10s were excited to unveil their new match kit for the first time and proudly posed alongside their coaches for team photos on the pitch.

Playing format was as we have done in previous games with 2 games of 6/7 aside and finishing with a 9v9 on a full pitch.

As with recent games, we couldn't fault the effort as the Swillington boys who never gave up and had to work hard to make any gains against a well drilled team in Birstall Victoria.

Again, it was really pleasing for us coaches to see the hard work from recent pre season training and friendlies coming through into some areas of their game.

Plenty of positives to take away for individuals and as a team, and always plenty of things to work on too, but all our boys should be really proud of their performances.

Shout out to all the Birstall Victoria team. All the games were played in the right spirits and the kids are a credit to the coaches.

Well done to all the kids who played, and a BIG shout out to all our certificate winners - in particular to Isaac, who shone playing his first game for Swillington and rightly claimed a bunch of certificates for his efforts. πŸ’ͺ🏻🀩

Looking ahead, our U10s have a busy weekend to come. Friday night the boys are playing at OneBore Stadium for the Castleford Tigers v Hull FC game in a festival of rugby prior to the main event. We play against Hull Wyke Rugby League teams and share the pitch alongside our U6s. We are then flag bearers welcoming out the men onto the pitch ready for the 8pm KO.

And then on Saturday, we go again and are up bright and early, as we welcome Stanningley Rugby Club to our ground, in what promises to be an exciting weekend of rugby for our U10s.

Hope to see you all down there to cheer us on!

πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ‰ U8’s MATCH REPORT πŸ‰πŸ’›πŸ–€

A massive well done to our Swillington ARLFC Under 8s who kicked off their season on Sunday in a fantastic mini festival against Garforth Tigers ARLFC and Sherburn Bears ARLFC!

We saw some excellent rugby played with good attack shape and great communication on the field between players. Some great tries scored, including one by Swillington player Stanley that wouldn’t have been out of place in a Super league match! Our defence has really improved too, and has become absolutely rock solid! It’s great to already see a massive progression from last year, with everything we’ve been working on in training during pre season finally coming into focus on the pitch.

A huge thank you must go out to Garforth Tigers and Sherburn Bears - thank you for the great games and the sportsmanship. It was a pleasure to host you both, and we look forward to visiting you over the next few weeks for more mini festivals!

Also a huge thank you to Coach Steven Precious for cooking loads of great food which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the players afterwards.

Bring on the next match!
