We had a fantastic (and hot!) double header of women's cricket at Colton Sports and Social Club today, when both the women's softball teams were out. The 1st team took on the mighty Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club and as always, it was a fantastic game! Hunslet set a huge batting score to start, finding lots of boundaries to offset wickets taken by Laura, Vic and Alice and some great fielding efforts all round. Colton came in ready, and despite Play Cricket giving up (presumed heading for cooler climes π€£) and our highest batting total so far this season, couldn't stop the super accurate and shin bruising bowling from taking more wickets. Best bowling to Caz with 22 off 15 and 3 4s. Best bowling Laura, Vic and Alice all up there with a clean sheet from Karen too.
On to the second team game against Leeds Caribbean. Turning up 2 short meant Colton picking 2 batters to go again and after winning the toss we opted to bat first. Colton saw the Dacres Duo lead the batting field again with Elaine giving us a fab 25 runs including 5 4s. Paula and Lindsay also added great runs on, making a few 6s look easy between them! It was great to see our Angie playing her first game in a while after an ankle injury got in the way of last season and running the Leeds marathon got in the way of this one! Back to the right priorities now tho! π
Caribbean headed out to bat and it's safe to say we won't be picking one of those names to bat twice again after a stellar batting performance saw a player walk off with 64 runs including 7 4s and 6 6s π€£. The rest of the team batted strongly to finish 14 runs ahead on a massive 145! Top bowling to Angie who kept a clean sheet in her 3 overs and Maria for a clean sheet in her 2 overs.
A well earned pint was in order after that! Thanks everyone who was there supporting (Happy birthday to our player Carrie who started her birthday celebrations at the club so could watch the games! π₯³ π π» π₯).
And thanks to our new sponsor Ciso Select this season for our lovely new kit and a generous and unexpected bonus which has helped us buy new equipment for our ever expanding, awesome group of women cricketers!
