Howden Clough 0 v Forge 7
The season ends with yet another huge effort from the girls who once again battled on the pitch where they have given and left everything.
Today we played a really good team who were physically strong and technically good, quick wingers causing havoc and lethal strikers, but we gave it our all and didn’t let them have an easy ride.
First 15 mins there’s nothing in the game we were solid and then a goal came and we found ourselves at 3 nil coming to half time.
Cannot fault the efforts, running and determination in the heat showing great resilience to play last 15 minutes with only 10 players due to injuries.
As I’ve said it takes guts and big hearts to continue when you get knocked down and once again we showed we don’t give in and fight to the very end!
Scoreline doesn’t matter, being together till the end does and the fact they stood on that pitch today after everything that’s been thrown at them this season I take my hat off to them all.
It’s hard to see it in defeat, but the way we have developed this year is there to see and that may sound stupid but I’ve seen it.
Not many teams would have stayed together that’s for sure and when you break it down we are in Division 4 of 9, with over 50% of our team actually under 12’s facing girls some 18 months older that’s some effort and gets my upmost respect.
Well done to you all this season. Let’s rest up and enjoy the BBQ now.
It’s been a real pleasure to be part of this team and we never give up.
Thank you.
Opposition player player of the match; Harlie, having 3/4 players charging at you at a time stood alone is a hard thing to cope with and today you stood up even when you were felling well. Well done Harlie
Coaches player of the match: Tierney, what can I say but quality today. Battled, ran, worked so hard and played for the team.

Methley Blackhawks V Clough. A cracking game of football this morning, 2 sides who were up for a physical battle and a referee who was happy to let the game flow lead to a close game and a great watch. Clough came out on top in the end with what was a contender for goal of the season. Speedy stepped out of defence, ran down the wing beating 2 or 3 Methley girls before cutting in and unleashing a venemous strike into the bottom corner. All the girls loved the physical side of the game and it is great to see all of their confidence growing in themselves and each other. One game to go until the end of a really enjoyable season. Well done to all the girls, 100% effort put in from every one of them once again, we cannot ask for more than that.

Today Howden Clough hosted Methley, a side who play in a higher league, but it was the perfect test to see how far we’ve come this season in our final game.
Before the match, we spoke to the girls about the message posted on social media: Play with pride. Play fearless. Play together.
The Lionesses took that on board from the first whistle — giving everything, driving forward fearlessly, defending brilliantly, and working together as a team. The girls matched the opposition in every area and showed just how much they have developed throughout the season.
Going into the second half, we reminded them how proud we were and how far they’ve come this season, and encouraged them to finish on a high.
Not long after, Ellie opened the scoring with a fantastic goal. The girls defended ruthlessly, moved the ball brilliantly, and played with real confidence. Credit to the opposition as well, who never stopped battling and gave everything throughout the game.
Maisha then added her name to the scoresheet, followed by an own goal to round things off.
By far the best performance of the season — proud is an understatement.
🏆 Home Girl of the Game: Ella C
🏆 Away Girl of the Game: Nadia
A huge thank you to the other coaches, Brad and Will, for everything this season. And thank you to all the parents for the sacrifices and commitment you give every single week for football.
10/10 season. Looking forward to going again next year 🟠⚫️🟠⚽

Clough versus Clifton. Perfect way to finish a really enjoyable season for the girls. Before the match started we asked the girls to try and get Lily her first goal of the season. What followed was a perfect example of what a great team spirit the girls have created. When girls could have had a shot and taken the glory of a goal for themselves, they chose to pass to their team mate. Lily got her goal! Another first goal of the season for Charlotte who had an outstanding game today in midfield and seems to get better every time she plays. Every single player has improved so much this season and we are now a team of players who are a joy to watch, and coach. We cannot wait for presentation evening when we can speak about each individual girl and what makes them all such special players and fantastic team mates for each other. Two cup finals and a promotion has been just reward for a great team who will only get better and better and never give less than 100% effort.

GOOD LUCK to all of our girls playing today! 🧡🖤⚽
For many of you, this will be your final game of the season — so enjoy every moment, play with pride, and give it everything for the badge and for each other.
Thank you for the hard work, commitment, and memories you’ve created throughout the season. No matter the result today, you’ve already made everyone proud.
Play fearless. Play together. Play Howden Clough. 🦁

Howden Clough u10 Lionesses vs Holbeck Moor u10 Storm:
Clough made the short trip to Holbeck today hoping to finish the season on a high, and wow did they deliver!
A well fought game between two evenly matched sides gave a fantastic match to watch for supporters.
Felicity returned to her familiar goalkeeping position today after her spell with injury, and she really delivered. Some great saves and brilliant distribution and kicking demonstrated today.
Scarlett was up for a battle today, and worked really hard at the heart of defence to stop any threats arising.
Similarly Darcie has been performing well as a defender in the last few games, and today was no exception. Nothing got past her today and she impressed throughout.
Lucie was her usual self at the centre of defence and also as an anchor in midfield - she let nothing past her, and dictated the game brilliantly.
Olivia B worked tirelessly yet again today, with lung busting runs throughout and being rewarded with a brace of well taken goals.
Ellie was a star in midfield today, and even did a stint in defence when the team needed. She demonstrated her class throughout and scored a fantastic goal into the top corner.
Bella showed her pedigree today too, with a combative and hard working performance both in central midfield and in attack, fashioning chances not only for herself, but also unselfishly for her teammates.
Hattie has really kicked on in the previous weeks and today was no different. After a great training session midweek, Hattie had the captaincy, and her hard work and positional intelligence saw her rewarded with a second half goal arrowed into the bottom corner.
Finally onto Daisy - yet again different gravy today. Endless sprints, examples of game awareness, calmness, skill and effort saw her rewarded with two great goals, and both the coaches and opposition player of the match awards.
A lovely way to end a really enjoyable season, well done girls and thank you so much for all of your efforts through rain and shine! 🟠⚫️

Today the Lionesses faced Golcar, who are widely regarded as one of the strongest sides in our league. Before the game, we spoke about being brave, getting our bodies behind the ball, and putting everything on the line for the team — and the girls delivered exactly that from the very first whistle.
The team made a brilliant start, working tirelessly to shut everything down early on. Millie, Summer, Bells, and Elenor were outstanding in defence — solid is an understatement. In midfield, Millie, Freya, Ellie, and Ella worked relentlessly, linking passes together and feeding our attack. Up front, Matilda, Isabella, and Nadia created some fantastic opportunities throughout the half. With Maisha only really being called into action from dead-ball situations, the girls went into the break full of confidence.
After Nadia unfortunately had to come off injured, Maisha stepped up and carried on for her teammates in the second half. The girls continued to battle for every ball and pushed right until the final whistle. We even changed things around late on, with our goalkeeper moving forward to help the attack, and Millie Glyde stepping into goal and pulling off a great save when called upon.
A fantastic performance against a very strong side, full of bravery, determination, and teamwork from start to finish.
🟠⚫️ Away Girl of the Game: Matilda — for being tough in the tackle and putting in the hard work all game.
🟠⚫️ Home Girls of the Game (chosen by Brad and Will):
Ellie Kellet — for driving forward, taking players on, and delivering some brilliant crosses.
Millie Glyde — for shutting down long balls, being brave in possession, making great passes, and stepping up in goal to allow Maisha to push forward and support the attack late on.
Great effort. Great team. 🟠⚫️⚽️

Howden Clough u10 Lionesses vs Ulleskelf Juniors u10 Warriors:
A fantastic, competitive match today! End to end, with Clough racing into a first half lead, before Ulleskelf came back and gave the home side a scare!
Ella kindly offered to play in goal today, filling in for the first two quarters. She was commanding her area brilliantly, before coming out and playing her more familiar position of defence later in the game.
Scarlett was today’s captain after a great mid week training session. She was battling all game and really getting stuck in, with some lovely incisive passes too and even doing a shift in goal.
Lucie commanded both the midfield and defence brilliantly, dictating the pace of the game well and showing brilliant composure throughout.
Felicity continued her hot streak of outfield form, playing in almost every position today and performing well in all of them!
Darcie’s chauffeur had the wrong kick off time, but she managed to arrive in time for the second half. However, when she did arrive she had a brilliant shift in defence, before adopting her more familiar attacking role later in the game.
Olivia S was back this week, and continued where she left off - a brilliant, dominant performance with some great mazy runs. She was rewarded for her performance with the opposition player of the match.
Olivia B was her usual self, endless running up and down the wing, and adding another two fabulous goals to this season’s tally.
Hattie continued her work in the front line, battling hard, taking up great positions and scoring a brilliantly taken goal into the bottom left corner.
Daisy was phenomenal yet again - bossing the game from minute one, and her fantastic performance meant she managed to bag herself 4 goals today.
And finally onto Martha, today’s player of the match. In my opinion her best performance to date - she completely dominated the defensive line today. The flair she showed for one particular turn out of danger was amazing. And to top it off, she selflessly offered to do a stint in goal!
A great game and brilliant performance yet again. Well done girls! ⚫️🟠

Tingley 6 v Clough 0
We started this game really well and for the first 15 minutes we competed well, listened and had 2/3 opportunities to take the lead against a well organised Tingley side.
It’s our lack of composure in front of goal which we have mentioned before that hasn’t allowed us to build a platform to work from, take a lead and then put the opposition under pressure.
Same old habits crept in once they scored, we retreated back to defend deep and invited pressure on us and once that happens we conceded goals.
To go in at half time losing 4 nil was disappointing considering how well we had started the game.
They were a big physical team and we played into their hands not pushing up the pitch.
We spoke about it at half time and played much higher in the second half and their chances slowly dropped off and the balance of play levelled out.
Again unlucky not to score ourselves in the second half we had 2/3 great opportunities, but we didn’t take them unfortunately.
The girls worked hard against a team 2nd in the league and gave in their all for 70 minutes.
Opposition player of the match: Mollie, unlucky not to score as striker today and linked up well.
Coaches player of the match: Skarlett, ever willing runner in midfield giving her all for the team.
Training Wednesday, but no game next weekend, our last game of the season is 23rd May at home.
