Today, Sunday 31st May, many Christians celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. This special day reflects on the belief in one God in three persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It’s a time to pause, reflect, and appreciate the mystery and unity at the heart of Christian faith.

Today (or this week, depending on observance) marks the Ascension of Bahá’u’lláh, a significant holy day in the Bahá’í Faith. It commemorates the passing of Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Bahá’í Faith, in 1892. Bahá’ís believe Bahá’u’lláh brought teachings focused on the unity of humanity, equality, peace, and the harmony of science and religion.
The day is observed with:
• Quiet reflection and prayer
• Readings from Bahá’í writings
• Community gatherings, often held in the early hours of the morning (around 3am), marking the time of his passing

Eid al-Adha began yesterday, marking one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar.

Also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, Eid al-Adha commemorates the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice for his faith. It is a time centred on reflection, charity, and community.

Muslims around the world observe the occasion by:
• Gathering for special prayers
• Sharing meals with family, friends, and neighbours
• Giving to those in need, ensuring everyone can take part in the celebrations

Shavuot, or the Feast of Weeks, is a major Jewish holiday celebrated exactly seven weeks after Passover. It marks two major milestones: the agricultural celebration of the wheat harvest and the spiritual commemoration of the day God gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai. Traditions include dairy meals, staying up all night to study, and reading the Book of Ruth.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, sometimes abbreviated World Day for Cultural Diversity, is a United Nations sanctioned observance day for the promotion of diversity and intercultural dialogue. Begun in 2002, it is celebrated on 21st May. The day emphasises that our multi-ethnic and multi-cultural societies are a source of richness rather than a threat.
