We are refreshed and so excited to be back in the studio for our final half term before the summer holidays! We have a fantastic 7 week half term full of FUN, EXAM PRACTICE and WATCHING DAY prep! 💕🫶

🩰🎉Huge congratulations to our Grade 2 student Georgie who, after two rounds of auditions, has been offered a place on the Academy of Northern Ballet Junior Associate Programme to start in September! 🎉
Georgie will take weekly classes at the academy to complement her studies at DHD. She will join other current DHD students on associate and Centre for Advanced Training programmes - Tilly, Teagan, Pearl and Vienna. A huge well done also to our wonderful Mabel who made it onto the reserve list 🫶.

📆 SAVE THE DATE for not one but TWO DHD shows!! 😱

To celebrate our ⭐️10 year anniversary⭐️ next academic year, we will be staging two fantastic shows. 🎭🩰👯‍♂️

🩰SUNDAY 6th DECEMBER 26 - Pudsey Civic Hall. All of our dancers in children’s classes from Pre-Primary upwards will be invited to take part in a full Ballet production of one of the most popular classical Ballets! (This will be an afternoon performance so that young ones aren’t too tired for school the next day.)

👯‍♂️SATURDAY 22nd MAY 27 - Pudsey Civic Hall. ALL DHD students from children to adults will be invited to take part in this spectacular showcase of all dance styles studied at DHD. There will be a matinee performance as well as an evening show.

THE BALLET BARRE is synonymous with ballet training, right? So why don’t our youngest dancers use it?

Because good ballet training starts before the barre. 🩰

💕For children aged 3 to 6 development is key. At this age, their bodies are still learning how to balance, coordinate, and move freely through space. Giving them a barre too soon can encourage them to lean, swing, grip or rely on its support instead of discovering their own stability.

Posture and alignment are also still developing. We use the barre to support and refine good technique and little dancers just haven’t developed the strength and awareness to use it properly yet.

Barre work is structured, repetitive, and requires sustained focus. But little dancers thrive on imagination, storytelling, and free movement which develops creativity and artistry naturally. 🫶

The barre will come when the time is right.
When strength, coordination, and focus are ready for it.
But first, we build the dancer, not just the technique. 🙏🏻🥰
