Metro 3 Match report - Rothwell 4 vs Garforth 1
A cold winter's night at the top of the table akin to the Battle of Winterfell and with stakes just as high....except you could see it because there were lights. The story is that of love by which I mean all games were 3-0 and all wrapped up by 8.30pm ready for food.
3 - Aaron Iger lost to Andrew Horne 3-0
2 - Dan Coulton bt Ian Rotherham 3-0
1 - Luke Goodwin bt Andy Rudd 3-0
First up Aaron Iger with nicknames such as the engine, the labrador and once the ferret showed nicknames provide no points with a quick defeat to the world class touch of Garforth's Andrew Horne.
Dan Coulton then faced a giant of the game in Garforth's Ian Rotherham. The power from 'The C**t' proving too much and tamed the giant with a 3-0 thus avenging the earlier defeat.
At #1, would it he a good win for Luke Goodwin against a formidable opponent in Andy Rudd? The drama ensuing in the second game where Luke hustled and made no mistakes to come from 14-9 down to win the game 17-15 and then seal a much needed 3-0 win to take Rothwell 4 to the top of the league by a solitary point.
Final score: Rothwell 9 – 3 Garforth

Yorkshire League Match Report - Rothwell vs Pontefract Squash & Leisure Club
Close but no cigar for our Yorkshire League team this evening against an in-form Pontefract squad.
Still on the hunt for a win this season, a good result would be a big ask against current 4th-place Pontefract.
However, the team battled hard to pick up a crucial 8 points, with gutsy performances all round, and wins from Rob Ellis and Rob Leathley.
Also fantastic to see a return to action for Club Captain Mark Burnley, who will no doubt go from strength-to-strength over the coming weeks.
5 – Graham Marr (a) bt Matt Hart 3-0
4 – Katie Smith (a) bt Kevin Lorne 3-1
3 – Rob Ellis (h) bt Neil Thackaray 3-2
2 – Chris Gregory (a) bt Mark Burnley 3-1
1 – Rob Leathley (h) bt Engy Elmandouh 3-0
Overall score: Rothwell 8 - 16 Pontefract

Metro 1 Match report - Rothwell 1 vs Huddersfield 1
A successful outing last night for our Metro 1 squad saw the team pick up a valuable 10 points against Huddersfield 1.
3 – Kev Lorne (h) bt Greg Cross 3-2
2 – Rob Ellis (h) bt Calum Holinger 3-1
1 – David Biggs (a) bt Rob Leathley 3-1
Opening the evening, the Humberside Hustler Kev Lorne took on Greg Cross. Kev took the first two games with brilliant hold and deceptive angles, though would succumb to Greg’s excellent racket skills and shot placement in the following two. This set up a tense fifth, in which Kev pushed through to win 11-6.
Rob Ellis then faced Calum Holinger. Two tie-break opening games saw the scoreline locked in at 1-1. A handful of lucky frame shots from Rob, combined with a number of errors from Calum’s racket allowed Rob to take the next two games.
At #1, the Plucky Plumber Rob Leathley took on David Biggs. The two players, familiar with each others' games, had a close start to the match. David took the first two games 11-8, 11-8, with Rob taking the third 11-7. David recovered from losing the third game to take the fourth 11-1, with an excellent display of attacks to the front of the court.
Rothwell 10 – 6 Huddersfield

Congratulations to Jon Priestnall who won the annual 2023 Christmas Racketball Handicap comp 🏆 beating Stewart Humphrey 9-8 in the final!
Thank you to everyone that entered and to Lee Gallagher for organising another great competition, a great way to finish the year off in style!
For anyone that is interested in playing next year, the comp is held over one day usually just after Christmas and is played in different groups, all playing each other at least once in each group in a continuous 8 minute round with the highest score winning until you are eliminated or go on to the next round until two players reach the final. A brilliant social event with 🍻 afterwards.
Happy NY everyone!

The squash season is over for another year, and what a result for Rothwell!
In the Third Division Metro League, after a dramatic end to the season, our teams scored an absolute worldie of a result – placing first, second and third in the league.
A special congratulations to James Gillman's Rothwell 5 team for taking home the trophy, with excellent performances all season from Jordan, Michael, Ken, Rob H and James.
Strong performances from all our other Rothwell teams, including what looks like a second place finish in the First Division (awaiting a few missing results), and a fifth place finish in the Second Division. Our Yorkshire League team finished 7th overall - a fantastic result.
