The Open Age Women travelled to York Acorn today and came away with a fantastic 46–4 victory to round off an incredible season. 💪🏆

A huge thank you to York Acorn for accommodating us. It was great to mingle with them afterwards, share some nice words and enjoy the true spirit of the game together. 👏

What a first season it has been as an Open Age team.

To take so many players from our junior ranks into Open Age, skip a season from U18s, win the Winter Challenge Plate, and then go on to win the Summer Division is an unbelievable achievement.

This is a hugely talented group of players, but more importantly, they are a group who have worked incredibly hard for each other. The commitment, dedication and sacrifices made throughout the season have been outstanding.

Head Coach Tony Tonks would personally like to thank every single player for putting their trust in him throughout this journey. Stepping into a new Open Age team and taking so many players through such a big transition was a challenge, but the belief these ladies showed in Tony and the coaching team has been a huge part of the success.

A special mention must also go to Assistant Coach Ady Armitage for all his hard work and commitment, and to Gavin Budby, who not only coaches this Open Age group but also gives his time to our U13s girls team.

These three men have done a brilliant job with this team, helping shape, develop and prepare these players for what promises to be a very bright future. 👏⚫️⚪️

And to finish the season with TWO PIECES OF SILVERWARE 🏆🏆 — what more could you ask for?

It’s been an absolute pleasure coaching this group and delivering another competitive, successful and memorable season.

Roll on 2027…

BRONTE RUGBY CLUB | OFFICIAL STATEMENT.

Bronte Rugby Club would like to place on record our immense pride in the performance and efforts of our Ladies team following last night’s fixture against Oulton Raidettes.

The fixture was always going to represent a significant challenge for Bronte. Oulton currently compete three divisions above Bronte, finished in the top six of the Championship, and are Challenge Shield Champions, having defeated Bradford Bulls in the final.

The experience and quality within the Oulton side was evident throughout the game, particularly in their ability to control the tempo and manage key moments. We would like to congratulate Oulton Raidettes on the victory and thank them for the respect and sportsmanship they demonstrated throughout the fixture.

For Bronte, the game provided a valuable opportunity for a young and developing squad to test themselves against a highly experienced side.

This is Bronte Ladies’ first season of open-age rugby, with a significant number of players aged 17 and 18, alongside players who are new to rugby and a number of more experienced members of the squad. The progress made throughout the season has been exceptional, and the team has put itself in an excellent position heading into the final stages of the campaign.

The Ladies are currently in contention to become Division 3 Champions this Sunday, which would be a tremendous achievement in their first season of open-age rugby.

Fixtures such as last night’s provide invaluable experience and demonstrate both how far this group has already progressed and the potential that exists within the squad. With continued development and further experience, we are confident this young team has a very positive future ahead.

2027 RECRUITMENT

Bronte Rugby Club is also looking ahead to the 2027 season.

Any ladies interested in playing rugby and becoming part of this developing and ambitious team are encouraged to get in touch with the club. Whether you are an experienced player, new to the sport or looking for a new challenge, we would be delighted to hear from you.

🏉FANTASTIC DAY FOR OUR U7s🏉

What a brilliant day of rugby at the Castleford Tigers’ first-ever Mini Festival! 👏

Our Bronte Barbarians ARLFC U7s had an absolute blast! Five games of rugby, plenty of running, tackling, passing and scoring but most importantly, smiles all around! 😁🏉

It was fantastic to see all the kids enjoying themselves, playing rugby, meeting new friends and having fun with their teammates. The smiles on their faces throughout the day said it all!

A huge thank you to Castleford Tigers for inviting our team down and putting on such a brilliant festival. It was a fantastic day for all involved, and our little Barbarians will have some great memories to take away from it.

A special thank you too to the Tigers first-team players who took the time to come over for photos and sign things for the kids, they absolutely loved it!

Great rugby, great fun and plenty of happy faces. What more could you ask for.

🏉 U13’s Girls – New Players Wanted! 🏉

Our U13’s Girls are looking to add a couple more players to this brilliant little team! With plenty of games still in the calendar, it would be fantastic to get more girls involved and give them the opportunity to be part of such a great group.

The team is coached by Gav Budby and Sophie Newsome, who are doing a fantastic job developing the girls both on and off the pitch.

Wow, what a weekend for our Bronte Barbarians ARLFC U7s!

The team travelled over to the Stanley Festival and these kids were absolutely brilliant, playing 5 Brilliant games ! 🏉

From the first game right through to the last, every player gave their all and showed some fantastic U7s skills. Plenty of footwork, passing the ball around, making tags and, most importantly, every player played with a massive smile on their face! 🙂

Paul, Thomas and our new volunteer Dan are really happy with how the kids are coming along. You can see their confidence growing every week, with the players learning to work together, support each other and enjoy their rugby.

It’s fantastic seeing the kids enjoying these brilliant festivals, making new friends, building confidence and developing their skills along the way. 👏

Now we look forward to our next gala on Sunday!

Our ladies’ last home league game of the season and what a performance!

With several players missing through injuries and holidays, the ladies had to dig deep, and they certainly delivered.

The game started with some great go-forward rugby from our middles. Tizzy Clark (Elizabeth), making her first home start, made a huge impact with some big carries that consistently got the team up the field.

Tiegan Armitage and Kaya Laing were brilliant playing out of position, doing a fantastic job of getting the team around the field, while Macka Ellis put in a fantastic performance at ho**er.

Harriett Hirst played a huge part in the game, scoring a hat-trick and proving a real menace in defence.

Captain Paige Stevens was brilliant up front, making some fantastic carries and putting in some gruelling hits in defence. Paige also managed to get over for a hat-trick.

Caitlin Baker put in a great shift, producing some fantastic defensive work while also picking up a try and a conversion.

Sophie Newsome and Katie Milner were both solid throughout the game, with Sophie crossing for two tries and Katie also getting over twice. Nothing much came down their side, with both putting in strong defensive performances.

Chloe Charlton was strong in the back row, making some huge runs and putting in some solid defensive work. She also took her try really well.

Tiegan Armitage and Kaya Laing continued to do a brilliant job as our pivots despite both playing out of position, with Tiegan eventually sneaking over for a well-deserved try.

❤️ A Special Mention for Jessie

A massive shout-out to Jessie Barker, playing her first game back from injury and putting in a fantastic performance in memory of her late brother.

It was fantastic to have Jess and her family involved and to be able to make the game such a special occasion, with her brother having previously played for Keighley Cougars.

Well done, Jess. ❤️

🎙️ Coach’s Comments

Tony was really happy with the ladies’ performance. The scoreline eventually blew out and, for a period, the game went a little away from our standards. However, the ladies regrouped, got back to business and played some fantastic rugby.

A huge shout-out to all the ladies for getting around Jess and her family and helping to make the game one to remember for them.

We’d also like to thank Keighley for coming over. They had to work hard at times but can certainly hold their heads high.

🏆 Our ladies are now just ONE game away from being crowned Division Champions!

The ladies travel to York Acorn on 6th September for their final league game of the season.
