Our Bronte Barbarians ARLFC U13s Girls enjoyed a fantastic day together at Sheffield Water Park, where players and coaches took on the inflatables and had a brilliant time tackling the slides!

The trip was a well-earned reward for all the hard work the girls put into last Thursday’s Tackle Bag Challenge, raising money to make today possible.

After the Aqua Park, everyone tucked into pizza, chips and a few cans of pop before heading home with plenty of smiles and great memories.

Today also held a special significance for the coaching team. This time last year, we launched our first U13s Girls taster session with hopes of building a team but sadly, nobody turned up. Fast forward 12 months, and to now stand alongside a fantastic squad of talented, committed girls who have already produced some brilliant results means everything. We couldn’t be prouder of how far this team has come.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated towards today’s trip, to all the parents for their fantastic support, and a special thank you to Ash Samuels and The Well Project Normanton for providing the driver and bus.

🏉 Training continues on Thursday at Castleford Rugby Union, 5:30pm–6:45pm.

Bronte Barbarians U14s Fall Short in Top-of-the-Table Clash

Bronte Barbarians Under 14s travelled to Wetherby Bulldogs for a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash.

The opening 10 minutes were evenly contested, with both sides going blow for blow. However, it was Wetherby who broke the deadlock after 11 minutes, capitalising on a Bronte mistake to score the opening try. The hosts then produced a superbly worked team try to extend their lead to 12-0.

A series of Bronte penalties handed Wetherby valuable field position and plenty of opportunities to attack, with the Bulldogs making the most of it to take a commanding 26-0 lead into half-time.
Bronte came out firing in the second half, showing why they have sat at the top of the table for much of the season. Their efforts were rewarded with a powerful barge-over try, reducing the deficit to 26-6. The visitors continued to pile on the pressure and kept knocking on the door, but Wetherby's first-half advantage proved too much to overcome as the hosts eventually ran out 36-6 winners.

Coaches Ady and Nath were pleased with the team's commitment and resilience in the scorching conditions but acknowledged that too many errors and penalties gave Wetherby a piggyback down the field, ultimately proving costly.
There is plenty to work on, but Bronte will look to bounce back next week when they travel to West Bowling.

Today the lasses came together as a team and successfully completed their fundraising challenge, carrying a full-sized tackle bag all the way around Pontefract Racecourse. It wasn’t easy, but they dug deep, encouraged each other every step of the way, and showed exactly what being part of this team is all about. 🖤🤍

After all their hard work, there was only one way to celebrate… a well-earned McDonald’s! 🍔🍟😄

A huge congratulations to every single one of the girls for taking on the challenge with such determination, resilience and team spirit. You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.

💪🏉 Today’s the Day! Good Luck to Our U13s Girls! 🏉💪

After putting in the hard work at training this week, today our U13s Girls take on their fundraising challenge!

The girls will be carrying a full-sized tackle bag all the way around Pontefract Racecourse – a distance of around 2 miles – to help raise money towards their team trip. It’s no easy task, but we’re sure they’ll tackle it with the same determination and teamwork they show every week.

Once they’ve completed the challenge, they’ll enjoy a well-earned McDonald’s to refuel! 🍔🍟😄

A huge thank you to Cozy Corner Café for their fantastic hospitality and generosity in supporting our U13 Boys.

Following training, the players and coaches held a video review session from the weekend’s game, and the team at Cozy Corner Café put on an amazing spread that fed more than 20 players and volunteers. The food was absolutely fantastic and helped make the evening a brilliant success.

Opportunities like this are invaluable for our young players, giving them the chance to learn, develop and spend time together away from the pitch. The support shown by local businesses like Cozy Corner Café really does make a difference to grassroots sport and our community.

Wigan St Pats 0 – 44 Bronte Barbarians ARLFC

A top-class performance from our Ladies today as they travelled to take on high-flying Wigan St Pats.

With holidays and illness affecting the squad, Bronte travelled with just 15 players, but what followed was a superb display of commitment, resilience and teamwork.

Every single player stepped up to the challenge, stuck to the game plan and produced a fantastic all-round performance. Our forwards laid the platform from the very first set, dominating the middle of the field, defending with real grit and creating quick rucks that allowed our backs to play with speed and confidence.

* Katie Milner (Sponsored by JMH Metalworks & Mechanics) opened the scoring, showing her strength and class from a neat drop-off play by the halves. Conversion: Caitlin Baker.
* Caitlin Baker crossed next after holding her shape brilliantly, with Sophie Newsome providing the perfect pass to send her into the corner.
* Maica Laing powered over after causing problems for the Wigan defence all afternoon with her strong carries.
* Kaya Laing followed shortly after with a smart try, capping another outstanding display where she controlled the team around the field.
* Sophie Newsome was next over, using her pace and power to score a fantastic individual try.
* Captain Paige Stevens led from the front, crashing over from close range and leaving defenders in her wake. Conversion: Caitlin Baker.
* Morgan Bond then got her reward after tormenting the Wigan defence all game with her deception and footwork.
* Morgan wasn’t finished there. A huge carry from Maica Laing and a lightning-quick play-the-ball gave her the platform to sprint 50 metres for her second try of the afternoon. Conversion: Caitlin Baker.
* The final try came from Sophie Newsome, with Macka Ellis (Sponsored by Hayley’s Raffles) producing a superb jump play to Katie Milner, who hit a brilliant line before putting Sophie into space. Once she was through, nothing was stopping the trio. Conversion: Caitlin Baker.

“To come to Wigan with only two substitutes, keep the opposition to nil and watch this group continue to grow together was incredibly pleasing.

The ladies wanted this win to stay at the top of the table, but what impressed me most was our defence. There were periods where we defended back-to-back penalties, and even when we were 30–40 points ahead, the effort to scramble and keep Wigan scoreless never stopped.

That’s what makes this team special.”
