🏉 Bronte U14s vs Thornhill Trojans 🏉

Our U14s faced another tough challenge away at Thornhill Trojans but showed plenty of character to come away with the two points.

⚫️⚪️Bronte 14 – 12 Thornhill Trojans🟣🔵

Tough games create good teams, and the lads had to dig deep again this weekend. After backing up a hard midweek fixture in the Wakefield Cup against Division One outfit Oulton, where Bronte lost out in the final 10 minutes of the game for oulton to run in the try’s to take the win, the lads had to quickly regroup for another difficult game.

Thornhill came flying out of the blocks and made life tough from the very start, throwing everything at Bronte in a physical and competitive contest. While Bronte were not at their best, the lads showed resilience, stuck together, and found a way to grind out an important victory.

🗣️ Coach Ady’s Comments

“A champion team will find a way to grind a win out.
Today my Bronte Barbarians lads did just that. We were nowhere near our best, and credit to Thornhill for that. They came out of the blocks firing today and threw everything at us, including the kitchen sink. But my lads dug in and ground that win out.
Always proud 👏”

Another two points in the bag for the lads. 💪🏉

⚫️⚪️ Bronte Ladies 44 – 10 Crossfields Ladies 🔵⚪️

Bronte Ladies returned to action in style with an impressive team performance against Crossfields, built on strong completion rates, physical defence and some exciting attacking rugby.

The ladies started exactly how they had spoken about before kick-off, completing their opening five sets and defending strongly through the opening exchanges. Their efforts restricted Crossfields deep inside their own 30 metres and laid the platform for an outstanding first-half display.

In the middle, Maica Laing and Kaya Laing controlled proceedings brilliantly, with Paige “The Punisher” backing them up with some tough carries and aggressive defence. Katie Milner was exceptional in the back row, forming a strong partnership with Morgan Bond and helping create several dangerous attacking plays.

Out wide, Sophie Newsome, Chloe Charlton and Rochelle Liddle were solid throughout, constantly causing problems for the Crossfields edge defence. Morgan Bond was electric with the ball in hand, while Jess Barker produced her best performance in a Bronte shirt, asking questions of the defence every time she touched the ball.

Bronte went into the break leading 24-0 after a dominant opening 40 minutes. Katie Milner (sponsored by JMH Metalworks & Mechanics) crossed for a superb hat-trick, while Abi Keeley added another with a fantastic finish. Maica Laing powered over just before half-time, with Jess Barker converting three from nine attempts.

Crossfields were reduced in numbers through injury after the break, with Bronte matching numbers to help keep the game competitive. The Bronte ladies continued to apply pressure and play some excellent rugby, with Hayden Coney (sponsored by SC Tiling) crossing for a well-worked try straight from the training ground.

Grace Tonks also finished brilliantly on her edge following another slick attacking move. Maica Laing was immense all afternoon, producing some huge hits and carrying strongly throughout before earning a deserved try. Kaya Laing also got on the scoresheet after a strong display through the middle, while Rochelle Liddle capped off an excellent all-round performance with a deserved try of her own.

In the closing stages, both sides were reduced to 11 players due to Crossfields injuries, which opened the game up for Crossfields, who scored two deserved late tries to leave the final score at 44-10.

Coaches Comments – Tony Tonks & Gav Budby

“It was great to get the ladies back out on the field doing what they love doing. It was also fantastic to have Abi Keeley in the squad — she brought plenty of tempo to our game. A big thank you to Featherstone Rovers Women for allowing her to dual register with us and gain valuable game time.

“The most pleasing aspects today were our first-half completion rate and our defensive standards. We were physical throughout and gave our half-backs a strong platform to play from. Seeing some of our training-ground set plays come off was another huge positive, and our attacking rugby will continue to improve as the season progresses.

“We’d also like to thank Crossfields for making the journey over. There were plenty of positives for them to take from the game and build on moving forward.”

Bronte Barbarians ARLFC U13’s Girls 22 – 10 West Bowling

Bronte Barbarians U13’s Girls made it two wins from two to start the season with another determined performance against West Bowling.

In what proved to be a hard-fought contest, Bronte opened the scoring early and used strong defensive line speed to force errors from the visitors. Consistent pressure deep inside the West Bowling half allowed the home side to take control of the first half, adding further tries and two successful conversions to take a deserved 16-0 lead into the break.

West Bowling responded well after halftime with an early score, but Bronte continued to apply pressure throughout the second half. Their defensive intensity and hard work around the ruck created more opportunities, leading to two further tries for the home side. The visitors continued to battle until the final whistle and were rewarded with another try, but Bronte maintained their effort and discipline to secure another impressive victory.

It was another encouraging display from a Bronte side that continues to show growth and development week by week, with their defensive commitment proving a key factor in the result.

Try Scorers: Freya x3, Charlie x1
Conversions: Evie x3
Top Tacklers: Kiah & Holly Mae

A huge thank you to everybody who came down to support the girls and to West Bowling for making the trip over.
