Remembering Kenrick Marshall.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Kenrick Marshall, who was our overseas player for 2 years back in 2000 and 2001. Kenrick was just 65.
He was an exceptional player for RCC, as well as a captain and coach back home in Barbados, where he made his name primarily for the Police Sports Club, having represented Barbados at under-19 level.
We first met Kenrick when he joined Horsforth Hall Park CC as their overseas player in the 1999 season. He then moved to RCC alongside his great mate Denis Rock. In his two years with us he helped us to narrowly miss out on the league title in 2000, and reach the Waddilove Final in 2001, which we lost despite Kenny’s three for eight off his nine overs!
He was a formidable quick bowler, who, should he so wish, could bowl 80mph plus, despite his run up being a mere 7 paces. He was also a brutal batter, whose six-hitting was immense. He certainly set the benchmark for today's six-hitting distances.
Statistically his performances at RCC were remarkable, taking 144 wickets in just two years, at an average of 14.8, and with an unbelievable economy rate of just 2.2. In addition he made 852 runs at an average of 26.
However, the most notable feature of his batting was his strike rate of over 150, which was way ahead of its time.
Back home Kenrick was an honorable police officer in Barbados, promoted to Sergeant before he retired. He then worked for G4S security services. He leaves behind, a wife Heather, who is very much in our thoughts.
Kenrick was a good man, a gentle giant, and on behalf of his UK cricketing community our condolences go to all his family and friends.
