🧠💪 Why letting children hang from bars is literally brain gold in the early years! I can not emphasise this enough, hence why we do so much of this skill in

Children are natural born gymnasts - they’ll naturally grab onto everything—it’s not random play. Holding their own body weight on a bar (or monkey bars) delivers powerful input to their developing nervous system.
✅ Builds grip + shoulder strength for better posture & fine motor skills (hello, easier handwriting!) 😉
✅ Fires up proprioception (body awareness) & the vestibular system (balance & spatial smarts)
✅ Supports motor planning, cross-brain coordination, and reflex integration
✅ Boosts focus, regulation, confidence & learning readiness
Movement like this literally helps wire the brain for success! 🌟
Start simple: supervised hangs on a low bar, rings, or even your hands as they grow.

After having my first child 18 years ago, I was shocked by how much core strength I had lost. My pregnancy was tough, labour was an ordeal, and I genuinely thought I’d bounce straight back into my size 10 jeans.
How wrong I was!
I returned to exercise far too early and trained exactly as I had before, rather than listening to my changed body. Even with a Masters in Sport & Exercise Science, level 3 gymnastics coach etc etc…I arrogantly thought I was superhuman and didn’t need to focus on core rehab.
Three years later, I had my son by C-section. Both pregnancies involved the babies turning from transverse due to the umbilical cord preventing them from engaging properly. It put enormous strain on my abdominal muscles. I was in significant pain, but my GP dismissed it as indigestion and sent me home with Gaviscon.🙄
Fast forward 18 years, and after consistently focusing on rebuilding my core, I’ve just hit a huge milestone: 36 full press-ups in one go – my first since having my daughter 💪🏼 It was one of my goals before turning 50!
Next up? A pull-up. I’m working hard on it 3-4 times every week at in Guiseley, where the team have been my biggest cheerleaders for the past 10 months 🥹
I talk a lot about the importance of core strength for babies and children, but I want to shout even louder about it for new mums. Looking after your body after pregnancy isn’t vanity – it’s essential. Your future self and your children will thank you for it. You’ll be stronger, healthier, and better able to enjoy life with them as they grow.
If you’re a new mum struggling with your core, know that it’s never too late to rebuild. Be kind to yourself, but start when you’re ready💕Tori x

Why Engage Your Preschool Child in These Specific Developmental Skills?
(My classes are for children aged 6 months to 4 years – the peak window of brain development)
During the first four years of life, a child’s brain forms billions of neural connections at an extraordinary rate. This period of rapid neuroplasticity is when sensory experiences, movement, and postural control shape the the brain.
Activities that combine:
🌟rich sensory input (touch, proprioception, vestibular stimulation),
🌟crossing the midline (using both sides of the body across the centre line), and
🌟coordinated movement patterns
actively strengthen communication between the brain’s left and right hemispheres via the corpus callosum.

These movements also support the integration of primitive reflexes (automatic survival responses present at birth) and the development of core stability and postural control.
When primitive reflexes integrate and core strength is established enabling higher-order brain function.

Research in developmental neuroscience and paediatric occupational therapy shows this foundational work is directly linked to improved:
🌟attention and concentration,
🌟visual tracking and hand-eye coordination,
🌟later reading and writing skills,
🌟and overall executive function.
In simple terms: the movements and sensory play for your child today are building the neural infrastructure they will use for learning tomorrow.
Every crawl, reach across the body, balance challenge, and textured sensory experience is science in action—sculpting a stronger, more connected brain. Tori ❤️

Ten years ago, a tired, make-up-free mum with her hair scraped back in a messy ponytail stood at the school summer fair… and the last thing she wanted was to be in a photo.

That mum was me.

I was exhausted. I felt scruffy. I was in full “put everyone else first” mode.

But the wonderful Lizzie from wasn’t having any of it. She gently bullied me (with the kindest persuasion 😂) into jumping in for at least one photo with my kids.
I reluctantly agreed.
And now?
I look at that photo and love it!
The messy hair, the bare face, the realness… I love every bit of it.
All those times I said “no” to being in photos because I felt too tired, too bloated, or not ‘picture perfect’ enough. They’re honestly my biggest regrets.

So this is your sign 💕
Be in the photos.
The version of you that’s tired, makeup-free, and running on pure love? That’s the version your kids will treasure most. And one day, you’ll look back and realise she was beautiful exactly as she was.
Thank you, Lizzie, for pushing me that day. Best decision I never wanted to make! 🥹
