Congratulations Hannah Cockroft OBE
The nine-time Paralympic champion joked she was on a mission to make her name "as long as possible" after receiving an honorary degree.
She told students to say yes to any opportunity, conceding that when she first saw wheelchair racing, she wasn't entirely keen.

From Young Sports Person of the Year to Lifetime Achievement.
Lizzie Deignan has become the first person to win both awards at the Leeds Sports Awards. She recently spoke to the Yorkshire Evening Post about what the honour meant to her:
"It was a bit of a pinch me moment really. I remember going when I was younger, when I lived in Leeds, and I think I got the Young Sports Person award. To have my full career, move away from home, then come back to my roots, it was quite a nice way of recognising the fact that I've moved home and my career has finished. It was special and I never expected that I'd be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award."
Congratulations again, Lizzie, on an outstanding career and this thoroughly deserved recognition.

Great news for Leeds!
Our city has been selected to receive a share of Sport England's ÂŁ250 million investment to help tackle inequalities in physical activity and make it easier for more people to get active.
This funding will support communities across Leeds to shape projects that reflect local needs, remove barriers to participation and create more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy being active.

One of those is Clarrie Ramsden, CEO (Chief of Everything) at Seacroft Cycles, who took home our Inspirational Community Champion Award.
Transforming lives through cycling, Clarrie has created a thriving community hub in Seacroft, opening up opportunities and removing barriers for people of all ages. Through her passion, determination and commitment to making cycling accessible, she has helped build a stronger, healthier and more connected community.

Our final award of the night is the Lifetime Achievement Award, and this year we are proud to recognise two very worthy recipients.
Congratulations to Lizzie Deignan MBE 🏆
One of Britain’s most successful cyclists, Lizzie’s outstanding career includes Olympic and World Championship success, multiple World Tour victories, and a historic Paris–Roubaix Femmes win. Her achievements and determination have inspired generations within the sport.
We also celebrate Leeds-born Danny Care 🏆
Following an exceptional career with Harlequins and England, Danny retires as one of the most respected figures in English rugby, with over 350 club appearances, more than 90 England caps, and a Six Nations Grand Slam to his name.

For nearly 40 years, Brian and Jill Wallwork have made an outstanding contribution to badminton in Leeds, coaching elite athletes and inspiring players of all ages and abilities through a thriving and inclusive community.
Congratulations to our first Special Contribution Award recipients, Brian & Jill Wallwork 🏆
Our second Special Contribution Award goes to Mike Tobin.
Through Tobin’s Gym, Mike has created far more than a gym space in Armley. For over 20 years, he has built an inclusive wellbeing hub supporting both physical and mental health, while making a lasting difference through free programmes and community support.
Two incredibly deserving recipients recognised for their lasting impact on sport and communities across Leeds.
